In the small village of Evermere, there lived a twelve-year-old boy named Leo. Evermere was surrounded by enormous silver mountains, and beyond those mountains was a forest that nobody dared to enter. The villagers called it Whispering Wood. They said the trees could speak. They said strange creatures lived beneath the roots. And, most frightening of all, they said that somewhere deep inside the forest was a doorway to another world. Leo had always loved stories about magic. His grandmother had told him that when she was young, she had once seen a dragon flying above the mountains. But Leo had never believed her. Until the night the moon turned blue. Leo was sitting beside his bedroom window when a strange light appeared between the trees. It was bright silver. Then it moved. Leo grabbed his coat and quietly climbed out of his window. He followed the mysterious light through the fields and toward the forest. As he reached the first trees, he heard a tiny voice. "Leo..." He froze. "Who said that?" A little creature stepped from behind a tree. It looked like a fox, except it had enormous golden wings and a glowing tail. Leo touched it.
