OVERVIEW --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a basic clone text engine I made myself that I use in my projects with text engine needs. I put it in this project here so that you can use it yourself! (With proper credit obviously) You can credit me as: KWAG, Kinda Weirdly Addicting Games or @Fish333335 CONTENTS --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the usage and easy transfer of the data within this project, I have created several variables (TExpos, TEypos, TEsize, TEcolor, TEeffect and TEmessage) as well as the startTextEngine message. TRANSFER --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Putting this text engine into your projects couldn't be easier! All you have to do is drag the sprite into your backpack, then drag it into your project. All of the variables should transfer over as well! USAGE --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using the text engine is a little more complicated :/ Because you can't use Scratch's built in My Blocks across sprites, I had to use variables to tell the text engine what to write and how that text should behave. As of right now, I don't know of a better way to do this, please let me know if you can find one. The variables are mostly self explanatory, but I will explain them anyway. TExpos: the X position that the text will be centered at. TEypos: the Y position that the text will be centered at. TEsize: the size of the text. (Going below 20 makes the letter I display weirdly) TEcolor: the color that the text will be, it's a value between 0 and 200, ranging from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple and back to red. TEeffect: Applies default Scratch effects to the text as well as one custom effect. The effects are fisheye, whirl, pixelate, mosaic, brightness, ghost and shake. To use the effect, type the first letter of the effect name (f, w, p, m, b, g, s) and then a strength value 0 - 100 No spaces! (Technically the effects can go all the way up to 999, but that only works for shake) TEmessage: the message that you want the text engine to display. In it's current state, the only characters are ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ1234567890 and a whitespace, all others act like a breakpoint, stopping the text engine instantly (except for lowercase letters which are read as uppercase) Once the variables are set for your message, broadcast startTextEngine or startTextEngineDE. startTextEngine starts the text engine and erases all previous messages. startTextEngineDE Doesn't Erase. When you want to get rid of the text, broadcast clearTXT. MODIFICATION --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want to add more characters (or even emojis) create a costume with that character and name it something unique and one character long. Then append that name to the end of the ALPHABET variable and whenever you type that name into TEmessage, it should make it part of the displayed text. When doing this, be careful not to remove the trailing whitespace at the end of ALPHABET. If you want to make a custom effect for the text engine, it must follow the same rules as the default effects (one letter identifier, value 1 - 100) Create a 'When I Start as a Clone' stack, add an 'if then' block with the parameters Effect = (Your one character identifier) Then inside that, add everything you want your text to do. Then test it by typing (one character id)100 into the effect box. It's that simple! If you want to change the font (mine is based off of Scratch's "Glow" font) you just have to change out the sprites, but that was obvious. That's about it!
