You have been warned dont report me L, sitting at a desk in Tokyo, was in fact, rather bored. ‘As per usual,’ he mused, thinking to himself. ‘A drawback of my safety measures. Though it’s better than risking being seen by a suspect.’ He twirled a sugar cube between his fingers, getting more impatient by the second. He sighed, setting the cube down on the desk, a few grains of sugar detaching and sprinkling on the wood. He dialed a number, listening to the sound of the pending call. The line clicked open. “What is it, L?” The police director asked over the crackling speaker. “Have you found anything that could be of some use, Mr. Takakura-san?” (Made up a name lmao) “We’re not sure. My team is still scanning the area.” A slight shuffle, from the other line. ”They are?” “Yes. Have you not been informed of this?” “No.” L replied, biting down on his thumb nail, his legs pulled tightly to his chest. “I have not been informed of anything, actually. I was called here to Tokyo two days ago, and arrived yesterday. To be quite clear, I was expecting a bit more information. All I know is that you are investigating a homicide. If it's just a measly, small, frankly unimportant crime like that, it makes no logical sense for me to be investigating this case.” Mr. Takakura rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “I am rather shocked they didn’t give you any details, L. I mean, you are the lead detective.” ”Yes. That is why I called.” ”Well, we have found something you might find interesting.” L pulled his legs even closer to his chest. “Continue, please.” ”You worked on the Los Angeles BB Cases, correct?” “Correct.” ”Well. We’ve found an exact replica of the dolls that Beyond left on his own crime scenes. And they’re in the same position: nailed right through, into the wall.” L leaned forward. “An exact replica? How many are there?” “Just one. L, it would be best if you came down and looked at the scene yourself.” L sighed. “It would be ideal for me to go over there in person, yes.” He didn’t ever appear in public. Part of his safety measures. “However, I’d have to ask you to at least have your team leave, if you must be there. Have there been any other murders?” “Not that we know of, but we’ve only been investigating here.” ”Well then instruct them to look around in areas close to the original site. It is possible that our culprit has already murdered multiple people..how old is the body itself?” “We sent it in for an autopsy, but our forensics team has been analyzing it for the past five days.” ”Then it’s highly likely that there could be another homicide from the same person.” Mr. Takakura exhaled, criticizing his own cognitive abilities. “I didn’t even consider that possibility.” He sighed, rubbing his temples. “Well. I’d like to see the scene of the crime, if you send your team away temporarily. It’s just an extra measure I’d like to take to ensure everyone’s safety.” “Yes, of course. I understand. I’ll send them away immediately.” “You have my thanks.” ”When will you–”Mr. Takakura started, but L had already hung up the phone. He didn’t want to talk further on the phone. Sighing, he uncurled his legs from his chest. It’d been a long time since he’d worked in person on a case. He wasn’t the least bit excited, for he found that people could be insufferable when you were face to face with them. Nevertheless, he needed to see the scene for himself. ~ Less than an hour later, quiet footsteps echoed through the hall of the apartment building. The crime scene. L had been sent the apartment number. ‘202.’ The apartment door was old and wooden. He knocked on it, three sharp thuds on it. The door immediately opened. “Hello, Mr. Takakura.” L said, bowing his head slightly. Takakura was a man of about forty, with short brown hair and brown eyes. You could imagine his surprise when the world's greatest detective turned out to be a twenty three year old boy, complete with messy black hair and dark eyes. “Oh– good afternoon, L.” He said, stepping aside. L nodded again. “Please refrain from calling me L. Ryuzaki will be a sufficient pseudonym for the time being.” “Of course.”
The studio apartment was small. The kitchen and bedroom were combined into one room, and there was a small bathroom on the side. “May I see the victim’s file?” L asked. Takakura nodded, taking a folder out of his briefcase. “Her name was Haruka Makoto. She was thirty six years old, and worked an office job at some small corporation here.” Takakura explained as L examined the file. ‘Hmm. She had a spouse. Was going through a divorce with said spouse.’ “Is the cause of their divorce stated?” L asked, looking up from the file. “We asked Makoto’s neighbor, who knew her fairly well. They said she’d found someone else, and cheated on her husband. How is this important?” “Well, it may not be.” L replied. “But it also could be. Almost anything is important in a case. We can’t be sure how each criminal's brain works. They may have grudges or preferences for choosing victims.” He set the folder down back on the counter. “Where did the actual murder take place? Where was the body found?” L asked. “The body was found in the bathtub, wrapped in some sort of plastic wrap. It wasn’t very well wrapped though. The crime seems like it started by the door, here.” He stepped back to let L examine the door, and the walls and floor around it. “You haven’t cleaned anything, yes?” “Yes. We’ve left everything how it was when we got here.” L nodded. He crouched down on the floor, then squinted his eyes at something. “Mr. Takakura. If you could be so kind as to come down here with me.” He beckoned to Takakura, who obliged. “What is it you want me to see?” “Well. Look here.” L pointed to something with his pale finger. “Not one, but two fingernails. Correct?” “Uh- yes. And the victim was missing two nails. Her fingers are stained with bl00d.” “But other than that, there’s no sign of a struggle.” “Yes…” Takakura frowned. “I’m sorry. It’s quite hard to see any nails on the ground.” L turned his head to look at Takakura, narrowing his eyes. “Fingernails are one of the most important things you could find in an investigation, whether on the body or not. The victim will scratch and claw at the culprit's skin while they struggle. There could be the DNA of the culprit, though I’m sure they were smart enough to wear long sleeves.” He shrugged. “Either way, they’re very useful.” L’s eyes drifted to the wall above the bed. “Is that… is that the doll?” He asked. It was an exact replica of the ones Beyond Birthday used. It was nailed to the wall, right through its chest. “Yes, but it’s just a cheap convenience store Wara Ningyo doll. Most likely unimportant. He probably just wants you to think it is B, up at it again.” L approached the nailed doll. He grabbed a pair of silicone gloves off the nearby table. “Do you have a hammer?” He asked as he pulled on the gloves. “Yes..” Takakura quickly grabbed a hammer from a box on the ground and handed it to L. It took great effort to pull the nail out, and L had to anchor one of his legs in the wall to yank it out. The nail clattered to the floor. “Please bag that up and send it to your forensics team. As well as the Wara Ningyo, thank you.” He peeled the gloves off his hands as Takakura bagged the items. “Well. You’ve found at least three new things for forensics.” Takakura said, smiling. L shrugged. “I just observed the obvious.” He left the apartment soon after, a light breeze ruffling his black hair against his sweater. Takakura said he’d contact him if there was any reports of a second murder, but that he’d let L into the system so he could look at all the files and forensics reports. “Hmm. It’s odd that the nails would be cleanly ripped off like that… almost like he did it on purpose.” He shivered at the thought. “Disgusting. If that’s the case…” His eyes darkened slightly. ‘…I’m dealing with a very sick and twisted individual, then….’ The wind speed increased. His hair was sticking up in random places. And not far away, maybe thirty minutes, sat a young man with brown hair and multi-colored eyes. He sat at a table with multiple other people, discussing something he was barely listening to. The only thought running through his head, was: “I’m going to end all of these people.” Written by: @PandaSans765 Art: @hbughjvbb (we alternate artists every chapter) Plot: @PandaSans765 and @hbughjvbb L belongs to Tsugumi Obha, the author of Death Note.
