Why AI "Artists" and "Art" aren't truly artists and art (rant): Art is something that takes time and effort. Artists often spend hours creating and AI is trained off those works, often without permission from the artists who put that hard work in. This is exploitation, which is defined as treating someone or something poorly for your own benefit. Using AI to make images for you IS exploitative, as artists don't get to choose whether or not their hard work is used and they don't get compensated whatsoever. For example, the artist Greg Rutkowski has suffered from people using his name in a prompt to use AI to generate images, which is absolutely plagiarism! He never got compensated for the work spent hours on for an image with no effort or soul put into it whatsoever. All these images were merely made by stealing his art and his style and mushing it all into slop without giving him the credit he deserved. And that's just ONE example Also, people who make prompts for generative AI aren't artists because they don't spend the effort to make art. And YES, AI is different from Photoshop. People who use Photoshop often make their own design choices and put in a LOT more work to make their designs correct than AI "Artists" do. For, example, someone who uses a recipe for a meal, but puts in effort and cooks it with their own hands IS a chef, but someone who just gets a frozen meal and puts it in the microwave ISN'T a chef because it doesn't take any effort to put a plastic container in a microwave. This applies to AI as well, whether it's art, music, stories, or other forms of self expression. It's unfair to a chef to claim you're a chef too because you put pizza rolls in the microwave a few times, as it undermines the work they put into it If you read all this, thank you. I really appreciate your willingness to listen to my rambling. You're loved and stay safe.
