DIZ’S ORIGIN STORY (written by @DisneyNerd26) Part 10: The Erase (Music: Runaway - AURORA) [TW! Grief & Loss] “Let me go get the rest of the fam. I think they’re all going to want to see this.” Dewey murmured as they all walked upstairs, turning around to go find the rest of the McDucks. “Alright young lady, hop up on your bed and get comfortable. Huey, how about you sit up next to her, given that this is your wish.” Niall suggested, Louie watching on behind him as the duo both jumped up to sit cross-legged on the bed. Dewey, Webby, Scrooge, Goldie, Della, Launchpad, and Beakley all appeared in the doorway, funneling into the room to watch. “Alright Huey, what is your wish?” Niall asked, rubbing his hands together. “I wish that Diz’s parents don’t worry about her being lost anymore, by whatever means necessary to achieve the goal, as long as Diz consents.” Huey recited, reaching out to hold Diz’s hand, meeting her eyes. “I consent.” She whispered, closing her eyes and squeezing Huey’s hand. “Okay then. Huey, Diz, as a warning, I’ve never attempted going to another dimension before, but I’ll give it my best try. You two take my hands. Picture your home Diz, and my wish magic should do the rest.” Niall instructed, hopping up on the bed in front of the teens, reaching out to grab their hands, forming a little ring. “No problem.” Diz whispered, squeezing her eyes shut tighter. Huey and Niall both shut their eyes too, Diz’s mental image flashing into their minds. From the outside of the ring, the family watched on anxiously as green and purple light exploded from Niall’s hands, wind and light swirling around the trio faster and faster, until they could no longer be seen within the vortex. "Ahh! The wind is eating them!" Launchpad cried out, and Dewey grabbed onto his wrist. "It's okay LP! Niall knows what he's doing! I hope..." The wind suddenly stopped, a dome of light forming around the group. Images, like photographs, flashed across the green and purple cupola of Diz’s high definition dimension, before there was a blinding flash. When everyone could see again, the three of them were gone. “Kids? Are you two alright? Where are you?” Niall dizzily looked around, then down at his own translucent hands. “We’re under you. And yeah, I think so.” Diz groaned from where she was sprawled across Huey’s chest, Niall sitting on her back. Niall clambered off of her, allowing she and Huey to get to their feet. “Oh man, we’re like spirits!” Huey exclaimed, studying himself. “I doubt anyone else can see us.” Niall added, frowning and looking around. “Hey! It worked! I am home!” She laughed, clapping her hands together excitedly and running through the fields towards a house nearby. “Diz! Diz!” Huey yelped, tearing after her as she walked right through the front door, dragging Niall along. “Oh whoa.” Niall cringed as they followed her in. Police papers, radios each tuned to a different station, and phones were all over the kitchen table, surrounded by what they presumed to be her parents, friends, and other assorted relatives. Diz stood there watching them, eyes wide, hands quivering. “They really don’t know I’m here.” She breathed, grabbing her father by the shoulder and attempting to shake him. He was motionless. Huey automatically came to her side. “Okay Diz. You get to choose. Should I wipe the slate clean, or just fake in a police call, some files, and a headstone?” Niall asked, rubbing his hands together again. Diz looked up at Huey, meeting his eyes. “Huey, I don’t want them to be upset, or grieve me…” She trailed off, voice choked. “Are we certain I can’t get home?” “Diz, I am positive. His wish magic couldn’t do it, and science would take 15+ years to do it. It’s your choice though. Do you want to try in 15 years?” Diz sighed deeply, reaching up to touch her bill. She glanced down at her duck feet, wrapped in denim spats, and felt her tail droop as if the weight of the world sat upon it. She stared down at her feathered hands, then looked back up at her family and friends. The gentle weight of a hand pressed on her shoulder, and she turned to meet warm maroon eyes that mirrored her tears. She wrapped Huey up in a tight embrace, letting out a muffled sob into his shoulder. “I’ve made my decision.” She finally sniffled, backing away to meet Niall’s worried eyes. Not long after, back in the mansion, another vortex opened on the ceiling in Diz’s new room. “What the-?” Louie screamed as various objects began raining down from the gyre. A giant weighted blanket suddenly landed on his head, throwing him to the ground with a loud FWUMP. “It’s Diz’s stuff! We have to catch it!” Webby shouted as a picture frame smashed against the floor, spraying glass everywhere. She yanked a sheet off the bed, Dewey grabbing the other end of it and stretching it taught.
Together, they ran around and caught each item before it hit the floor, the rest of the fam grabbing the stuff and stacking it out the way, while Beakley rapidly swept up the glass shards. Finally, the vortex closed, and only a few minutes later, with a blinding flash of light, the trio appeared back on the bed. Diz’s eyes had glazed over, and she looked around the room tiredly, offering a forced smile to the family. “I’m so sorry Diz.” Dewey whispered, walking over to grasp her hand, eyes brimming with tears. “I think you made the right choice.” “Thanks Dew. I know I did. They didn’t deserve having to grieve me. All my stuff is gone, every record, every memory. I think Niall even mind wiped my duck flock.” Diz sighed, staring down at her own hands. “Do you want us to let you be for a while, Diz?” Goldie asked gently, and Diz frowned, looking around at her stuff. “No, no thanks. I don’t think I want to be alone right now.” She whispered, trembling violently. Huey looked around, grabbing her weighted blanket off the floor and draping it around her shoulders. “Louie, please get your patoot off the ground, and go grab her a glass of cold water.” He said, looking on the floor where Louie was sprawled out on the ground. “Oh gee, awful me. Of course I’ll get my patoot up.” Louie moaned, slowly heaving himself up off the floor and hobbling out the room. Niall’s little wristwatch suddenly began chiming, and he looked down at it. “Oh. I’m sorry I can’t stay longer kiddos. I have to go.” Niall frowned up at Huey thoughtfully, before digging around in his pocket. “Here Huey. A pinch of wish powder. Because you used your wish for someone else, I owe it to you. It won’t do much as far as wishes go, but it’ll get you out of any spot of bother.” Niall formed a tiny bottle around the glittery dust, sticking a cork in it. “Thanks. For everything.” Huey whispered, taking the bottle in his fingertips and sticking it in his chest pocket. “Of course. I’m sorry I couldn’t do more.” Niall said with a sweep of his hand, bowing to the group before flashing out of sight. Louie suddenly came back in with a glass of water, looking around with confusion. “Niall already left?” “Yeah, why?” Della remarked, putting her hands on her hips. “Oh.” “Louie, you know better than throwing him out the window again and trying to save his life so he owes you a wish. He can save himself just fine, and you too, apparently.” Della scolded, and Louie let out an awkward chuckle, handing Huey the water. “Yeah, I absolutely know better!” “Ugh. I feel awful.” Diz groaned, sipping at the water and squinting in the light. Intense shivers came over her body in waves as Huey took the cup from her, and she leaned heavily against him. “Diz, I think you might be going into emotional shock. Can you take some nice deep breaths for me?” Huey murmured, supporting her against his side. She took deep, full breaths, closing her eyes. “Turn off the lights guys, she’s sensitive to stimuli right now.” “On it.” Webby ran over to the light switch, flipping it off as Beakley closed the curtains. “She needs rest. Diz, can I go?” He asked, giving her a soft shake. “Hm, what?” She mumbled. “You’re suffering from acute stress disorder. You’re dissociating and becoming sensitive to light. Just lay down, and I promise I won’t go far.” Huey murmured, climbing off the bed and easing her down onto her side. “Don’t leave.” She whispered, and Huey nodded. “I’m not.” “Nor am I. I’ll stay right here with ye tew lass.” Scrooge added, pulling up two chairs beside the bed… __________________________________________________ THATS THAT, DUCKLINGS!
