I have arrived with three art pieces for my third entry!! It’s actually more like 2 and a half but we don’t talk about that… 1st entry: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1374629040/ 2nd entry: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1377453977/ ✶ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ First scene: Hmm I think I might be in love with this piece… I like it a lot, which is kind of ironic because I absolutely HATED it for the majority of the process. But it all turned out okay in the end… The colors and lighting make me very happy :3 This was actually meant to be a transparent full at first (hence why it’s in the project) but I felt inspired to make a background… I’m also insanely proud of the full itself because what do you mean I didn’t over-render?? I’m especially proud of the hair I used a slightly different technique and I quite like how it turned out. Oh and if I get her I’d probably turn her lantern into staff if that’s alright with you? I’d do this because in most medium-to-high mages in Sundial have one, but Ashi would still turn it into a normal lantern sometimes because technically she’s not allowed to use a staff. Lore to explain that (scroll down more if you don’t wanna read the yap lol): In case you haven’t picked up on it, Sundial is very strict with it’s laws regarding magic use, which is a result of the whole curse and Watcher thing. Government monitored training is required until Order 6, and staffs warrants are only permitted once a mage reaches Order 5. “Orders” are essentially a legal reflection of how much power and control a mage has. (I’m beginning to realize this is kind of similar to Frieren, except I thought of this concept before I ever read the manga ToT) Every mage starts in Order 12 and trains with an experienced mage (typically Order 1 or 2, sometimes 3) and a government official. There is a school that offers training, but if they can afford it, most people opt for a private trainer. Because she ditched her training when she was younger, Ashi is, legally speaking, only a 10th Order mage, so she is very much not allowed to own a staff, or practice on her own. But Ashi far stronger than any other 10th Order mage. If she was accurately ranked, she’d probably in 5th or 4th Order. (For context Sora would be a 2nd order mage and Deki would be a 7th (maybe 6th?) order mage.) I say “would be” because Deki and Sora have never had official training, and are also practicing magic illegally. That’s like the only thing they have in common… Really only thing Sora and Ashi have in common is that they both have dark-tealish hair… And they absolutely despise each other… Ashi and Deki are also basically opposites (I think I mentioned that in my first entry) but they both like necromancy, which they *eventually* bond over, but it took yearsss for that to happen… So because of all that she turns the staff into a lantern sometimes* when she wants it to be inconspicuous, but still wants to have in on her (and be able to draw it’s power). *Ashi is very good at transforming things, she turns her snake Noodle into a horse a lot… ✶ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ Watercolor: Between my horrible camera quality and Scratch’s love of crunching my art I think this piece was just doomed to look bad, which is a pity because I really like it. You’re just gonna have to trust me when I say it looks better in person ToT We’re also going to ignore the fact that this was done on bristol paper not watercolor paper… I looked it up before hand and it only said it might warp a little more, which it did. SPEAKING of warping, ironing the paper flat was the scariest thing I’ve done in a while…which… says a lot about me actually… ✶ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ Unfinished scene: Genuinely why has she looked different every time I’ve drawn her? Same face syndrome hates to see me coming… Anywayssss I like the colors and composition on this one but when I startes the line art I just lost steam I guess? I’ve come to realize I like drawing three types of backgrounds for my scenes: fall trees, swamps, and snowy mountains, two of which I’ve already done for this dtae. Maybe I’ll finish the swamp and do a mountain to complete the trio… ✶ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ In terms of lore, I do have more, but it’s mostly just tiny details (like the staff thing) but I don’t feel like writing it down rn ToT Plus the first time I was typing this out scratch deleted my entire description and I nearly cried. In terms of next entries this might be last in a while because: a) I’m planning an animation which will take a while; and b) school is starting to get really hectic… ✶ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ I wish I could say this for the bit, but between health and AP bio the amount of times the words “ deoxyribonucleic acid/dna” have graced my ears since the start of school is more than I would have liked… I love AP bio though, it’s lowk easy so far (which I know will change blahblahblah) and my teacher is literally the best- I HATE health though… with a burning and unending passion. Okay that’s a little dramatic but my point stands.
