DIZ’S ORIGIN STORY (written by @DisneyNerd26) Part 9: One Wish (Music: There for You - Martin Garrix & Troye Sivan <clean>) "Hmm?" Diz’s ice blue eyes blinked open to meet Louie’s. "Hey. Uncle Scrooge wants us to show you something." Louie said gently, and she smiled drowsily. “Where’s Launchpad?” She yawned, rubbing at her eyes. “We sent him home, it got dark. Now, come on. Uncle Scrooge was insistent.” Louie maintained, frowning impatiently. “Louie, I don’t know if I can walk.” She murmured, and his eyes softened. “That’s no problem.” Dewey stepped in beside him, flexing and grinning at her. He bent over the bed, taking her hand and helping her sit up. “Just hop down, and I’ll catch you if you fall.” Dewey murmured, and Diz let out a laugh. “You sound just like Mr. McDuck.” “Just do it Diz. Don’t you trust me?” Dewey gave her puppy eyes, and she smirked. She pushed herself off the edge, knees buckling under the pain as soon as she touched ground. Agony shot through her head to toe, and she collapsed heavily against Dewey, who grunted under her weight. “I’ve got ya.” Dewey puffed, straining to get her arm up around his shoulders. Louie ran over and took her other arm around his shoulders, together lifting her feet off the ground. “Guys, nothing can be worth this. We’re all 3 in pain.” Diz groaned as they carried her out the room. “I promise, it will be.” Louie said as they marched down the infinite hallway. Then they went down the stairs, up the opposite stairs, and down another infinite hallway. Finally, they came to a stop on the complete opposite side of the manor, in front of a dark violet door, covered in little silver and gold stars and swirls of navy blue. Dewey knocked on the door, and it was opened, Diz’s eyes going wide and her mouth falling ajar. “Is this…?” Webby excitedly cut her off, “The room you chose out?! Yes, it is!” “Guys…” Diz’s eyes filled with tears as they carried her in and set her on her new bed. She looked around the room, eyes dwelling over her closet and dresser, her desk, and her soft blue walls. “Ye’re not going a place lass, so we figured ye needed to be comfortable.” Scrooge murmured, coming over to pat her on the shoulder. She threw her arms around him, trying not to cry. “You guys are the greatest.” She mumbled, wiping at her eyes as she looked around at the family. “We know.” Dewey said, striking a pose before bursting into laughter. "There's one more surprise." Huey called, uncovering the telescope in the middle of the room. Diz’s bill fell open, especially when Louie pulled a rope and the domed roof smoothly slid open to reveal the glass panels. "It's an observatory?!" She squeaked excitedly, and Huey came to the bed to grab her hands. "C'mon." He hauled her up onto her feet, helping her over to the telescope. "I'll keep you stable. Just take a look." He looped his arms around her waist, holding her tightly against him as she bent over to see into the telescope lens, aimed up at the starry sky. "I love this. Thank you, everyone." She murmured, leaning back into Huey and smiling comfortably. Huey helped her back to the bed, and sat her down, jumping up beside her. "How about we all sleep in here tonight?" Webby suggested, and the boys exchanged glances. "I'll stand guard." Mrs Beakley offered, and they all smiled. "You know what, that sounds okay." Louie said with a small smile. "I'll go get dressed for bed." "And I'll get a couple board games!" Webby sang, running out the room. Dewey let out a sigh, shaking his head. "Icebreakers, I'm sure." "I'm going downstairs to leave ye kids to it. I'll check in before I go to bed, ye cannae forget that ye still have classes in the morning!" Scrooge reminded the group, before taking Goldie by the hand and walking with her out the room… (Knock Knock) “Wake up kids! It’s already 6am! Breakfast will be served shortly!” Scrooge called through Diz’s bedroom door, cracking it open to peek inside. All the kids were sprawled out on the floor in their sleeping bags, sound asleep, despite the sunlight pouring through the open observatory roof and windows. He pounded on the door again, watching as their peaceful, sleeping faces contorted into scowls from the noise. “C’mon ye slothful sleepers. Ye cannae miss school!” Scrooge urged, walking into the room. “Okay okay. We’re getting up.” Dewey moaned, cracking his eyes open and stretching out. “Oh yeah, today is the biology test. I need to go read over my notes again.” Huey exclaimed, holding his head as he immediately got to his feet. “I wish we had real science tests.” Diz groaned, looking over at Webby. Dewey’s jaw dropped as he sat bolt upright, and Huey sighed with admiration, setting his hand on Diz’s shoulder. “Finally. Someone who gets me. Don’t you love the competition of them?” “Absolutely! That’s the best part.” Diz grinned, slowly sitting up and rotating her feet to the edge of the bed.
“Louie, are you gonna get up?” “Nerp.” Louie grumbled sleepily, rolling over to his side and closing his eyes tighter. “Louie, you can’t miss school. You aren’t sick.” Webby scolded, nudging him with her foot. “Oh can’t I? Watch me.” He chuckled, pulling his pillow out from underneath his head and covering his face with it. “Don’t make me call yer mother in with one of those blasted air horns, Louie.” Scrooge threatened, setting his hands on his hips. “Fine.” Louie groaned, sitting up and shaking his head, rubbing at his eyes. “Diz, I don’t know what yer opinion on porridge is- but that’s what we’re having for breakfast if ye want some. If not, I’m sure we have cereal or something else ye’d like in the kitchen.” Scrooge invited, walking back towards the door. “Thank you Mr. McDuck.” Diz said with a small smile. He nodded, walking out. Louie finally got to his feet, rolling up his sleeping bag with everyone else. “See you ladies at breakfast.” Huey called as the boys all walked out, leaving just Webby and Diz in the room. “That was a lot of fun last night Web. Good idea.” Diz exclaimed, patting her friend on the back. “You can’t go wrong with a sleepover.” Webby replied proudly. “Imma take my stuff back to my room. Do you need help getting up or anything?” Diz got onto her feet, swaying on them but able to stabilize herself. “Looks like I’m okay to walk around today. But thanks. Although, I’m not sure what to wear, those clothes I borrowed from you yesterday I efficiently dirtied in that algae mist...” “Come with me then. You can choose something else from my wardrobe. Whatever you want. You need to find yourself a style.” Webby said, loading up her arms and beckoning Diz after her, towards her bedroom. “And then what, buy 15 sets of the same outfit to wear every day? Is that like a thing around here, or is it just you guys?” Diz asked, and Webby shrugged. “Eh, some people might like variety, I just don’t.” Webby laughed as they walked into the room. She gave Diz a grin as she opened her closet and they went in. “Have at whatever you like.” Diz rubbed her hands together mischievously, immediately diving into some denim… (Later that day) “Kids? Someone is at the door for y’all.” Mrs. Beakley suddenly called, and the teens exchanged glances from where they were all sitting in the living room. Louie went to the door first, opening it and smiling. "Hey Huey, it's for you." Huey ran over, opening the door wider and hitting his knees. Diz peered around the others curiously, to see Huey was greeting a little leprechaun. "Huey, you've shot up since I last saw you!" The leprechaun cried excitedly, reaching up with his tiny pale hands to hug Huey. Huey squeezed him tightly, then stepped back with a grin. Suddenly, Niall caught sight of Diz, and his eyes widened. "Is that her?" "Yeah, that's her. Niall, meet Diz." “You didn’t tell me she was a pretty girl!” Niall exclaimed, and beamed as Diz’s cheeks turned the expected shade of red. “Pleased to meet you, Diz.” He extended a hand up to her, and she bent to shake it. “Your name is Niall?” She asked softly, and Niall looked at Huey, who shrugged. “Yes, why?” “No reason.” She blurted, grinning. “Come on in.” He gave her a queer look, then shrugged before walking into the mansion. “Where do you want to try, Huey?” Niall asked his friend, who looked over at Diz. “Can we try in your room?” Huey asked. “Try what?” “Oh, you didn’t tell her yet! Diz, I owe your friend here a wish, so he called me in to see if I can mind wipe your family, or if maybe I can give them a storyline to explain why you’re gone, so they don't worry about you anymore…” Niall trailed off as Diz’s eyes filled with tears and she looked between Huey and Niall in awe. She launched herself at Huey, throwing her arms around his neck in a tight embrace, making him stumble backwards. Dewey and Louie exchanged a glance, both snickering as Huey’s cheeks turned scarlet and his eyes went wide. A smile spread across his face and he patted her back, putting his chin on her shoulder. “I can't believe you'd use your wish for me! Thank you so much, Huey.” She cried into his collar. “You’re welcome.” He breathed as she slowly backed off him, rubbing at her teary eyes. “But only one way to see if it works.” Niall reminded them, gesturing to go upstairs…
