Respect your elders, they say. They are literally the ones who taught me how to stand up for myself. How to stand my ground. How to not respect people if they didn’t earn it. Well, newsflash, respect is earned, it is not automatic if you are older than me. Just because you are older does not mean that you are wiser. Stop telling me what to do whenever we talk. Stop saying to respect you even when you haven’t earned it.
