Bloom had just put away the tansy when she grabbed the next herb. Ty glanced down and froze. The marigold's petals were like the sun, a warm, yellowish-orange. It reminded Craft of... No. Why? Why did picking up this specific flower remind her of...him? ... Was it because she enjoyed hanging out with him? Her best friend--or at least her top three- since kithood? Was it because the apprentice shared the name of the flower? ... Was it because Tee /liked/ him? No. ... Why did she even think of that!? Bloom couldn't like Mari. That could ruin /everything/... especially if he didn't like her back. ... She closed her eyes, thinking. The first time they met. He was horribly prickly, but had slowly relaxed as they hung out. They had even ended up making bracelets together. Another time. He had saved her. Bloom had tried to go for a swim...or spotted a pretty shell...and a strand of seaweed snared her leg. Tea was unable to move, and he had lept into the ocean to save her-- Another time. They decorated the alcove together. Made strands of flowers and hung them on some rock shelves, and moved the two nests under the shelves. Then Tee had a home. Another. When they had looked for a pearl, because bloom desperately wanted one. He didn't even know what a pearl was...and still helped her. When he promised to fight Viperfishpaw for her, Cray knew he didn't end up doing that...which was fine. When he comforted her after her dad died. When he... ... Craft opened her eyes, shook her head, ridding herself of the pesky and confusing thoughts. ... Why? Why was bloom having these thoughts? Why did her heart twist when she saw warriors with their mates? Did she want that too? ... No. It wasn't something bloom could have, not something she could ever have. It was something that could only be found in a dream, and when Cray held a marigold in her paws. She told herself that. Bloom was too busy with medic duties...Ty told herself that. Tea couldn't have that. But a small voice whispered, "Why not?" ... "Why can't you have these things, Crafty? Why can't you allow yourself to be happy? Why won't you let yourself like him?" ... All great questions. But she knew the answer. And it was simple. ... She couldn't have these things because... It would only break her heart. And that is a very, very fragile thing. ... So Craft wouldn't let herself like Mari. But what if it was too late? It was already too late, wasn't it? Bloom couldn't even pick up a plant without thinking of him. ... Craftypaw sighed. Her sapphire eyes landed on the marigold still clutched in her paws. It was there...it was comforting. So Crafty chose it. Chose to put it in its area, because that was her job. But there was another thing bloom chose. She chose to open her heart. Open it to the possibility she could be happy--even if it meant risking her heart. ...
