That games have just been announced I act like I have no worries about being thrown into them, but this particular mask has been hard to keep. So, I went to my locker, opened the door, and stared into it, waiting for this dreadful day to be over. I hear footsteps, Anias, I carefully slip on an unconcerned mask. “What’s my favorite girl doing out of class?” He teases. I’m pulled into his eyes they are so intriguing one green the other blue. His dark hair contesting with his skin tone. Yet I feel like I’m being interrogated by him, some issues never go away. My eyes followed his arm as he placed it on a locker beside my head, and leaned closer to me. I could feel a smile tugging at my lips pulling me from my thoughts. “Trying not to strangle some kids.” I say innocently blinking my eyes rapidly probably looking like a complete idiot, but I didn’t care. I could feel his breath on my lips. I remembered about the games. My eyes betrayed me, and drifted down. “What’s wrong?” Anias asked in a concerned voice noticing my eyes. “I couldn’t help, but notice you finally didn’t put water in your hair.” I pointed out evading the subject. I couldn’t tell him. I want to. I desperately want to. I can’t. I can’t tell him… “Nice try” His voice dipped with fake pity. I rolled my eyes. “ I got to get to class.” I said too quickly, then rushing off. He can read me too well. Way too well, it’s a dangerous game I’m playing. I smile, I like danger. My life is danger. I make it back too class, and a familiar red-head opens the door for me. “Abandoning me for that boy again?” She teased “More or less.” I joked shrugging. “Also has your boy asked you?” I added a smirk playing on my lips. Meg rolled her eyes, as her face turned red. “Give me one reason not to lock you out here?” She glared “Because you know I’ll enjoy it too much.” That resulted in more glaring, but she stepped aside letting me into the dull classroom. I took a seat next to Meg, which was easy, because no one sat near her. I could tell Meg was acting off. She was scared, and was most likely going to be thrown into the games. I knew better than to ask, or show pity, so I just started working on what the teach gave us. I’ve seen these pages these names so many times every year when the games happen. No one enjoys them except the President, and the governors. My eyes return to the page, but the more important parts. Game Rules 1. There are 48 teams of 4 2. Each person is given a key 3. Teams need 8 keys to pass to the next level 4. On the next level there are about 24 teams of 4 5. Now teams will need 6 keys to advance to the last level 6. The last standing team wins. “No, different than last year.” Meg said trying to fill the silence and remembering the gruesomeness of last year’s games. “Yeah, surprise” I responded quietly. Meg was a fighter, but that would never prepare her for anything she is about to face…. What I may face… I’ll tell Anias and Meg why I’m worried later, but for now I need to slice something before it’s someone.
