It's hard watching your fiancée fade away. Sonic knew this more than anyone. Amy, the love of his life, was battling cancer and the last eight months had been a blur of paperwork, coffee, and hospital rooms. Whenever Sonic went to her hospital room, he would bring thoughtful gifts like books, flowers, and those stuffed animals that they never grew out of. And Amy would constantly talk about their wedding. Sonic loved her wedding talk. She said that her maid of honor would be Blaze and her flower girl would be Cream and the flowers that she wanted. Sonic listened to this patiently. They'd laugh like old times and sometimes, Amy would go quiet. Sonic, not really knowing how to fill the silence, would hold her hand. And that was louder than anything Amy ever said. The call was at midnight. Amy was gone. Sonic texted the group chat with his friends in it about the news. He didn't wait for the responses before turning off his phone and sobbing into his pillow. 3:00 AM: Tails invited himself over to Sonic and Amy's apartment (Sonic and Amy shared an apartment) with food. Sonic did need to eat, after all. When he found Sonic, he was in the kitchen, looking like he had aged ten years. Sonic's eyes were red and puffy, and he had eyebags underneath his eyes. Tails didn't say anything as he pushed the food to Sonic. Sonic didn't touch it. After a while, Tails whispered, "Are you okay?" And Sonic, a grieving 25-year-old man, broke down in the middle of his kitchen with his best buddy, still in high school, watching.
