"The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys independently and at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type any given text" Every cycle (there are probably thousands per second), a string of characters is built up, random letter by letter. If the output at any point does not match the first sequences of letters in the goal word, the output resets and the cycle restarts. The algorithm succeeds suspiciously quick sometimes so it MIGHT be bugging in favor of the hypothetical monkey; e.g., 1-letter words can somehow sometimes take longer to match than 4-letter words. I say "might" because there is still an exponentially steep drop-off in success time between 4 and 5 letter words, and then 6 letter words, which usually take several minutes to generate
