DIZ’S ORIGIN STORY (written by @DisneyNerd26) Part 8: All In (Music: Hold My Hand - Jess Glynne) “What were ye tew snooping schoolgirls doing up here anyhow?” Scrooge asked Webby, who blushed. “Diz and I were looking for old furniture, clothes and decorations. We think we found her perfect room, and we wanted to customize it.” Webby explained, and Scrooge shook his head, cupping her cheek in his hand. “Darlin’, ye should know by now, ye can ask me for anything ye need.” He sighed, looking around. “What sort of stuff does she like?” “Well, she likes anything blue, for starters…” “I knew I liked that girl!” Dewey laughed excitedly, popping his collar. “She’s a science and reading buff-“ “I wasn’t aware that she and Huey had chemistry!” Dewey cracked, roaring with laughter at his own pun. “Hush Dewey! Anyway, blue, science, books… Yeah, sums it up well.” “Well, I don’t think there’s any other monsters hidden away up here ye three don’t already know about, so have at anything ye need. Let me know if ye need me, but I don’t think there’s much I can do in the decorating department.” Scrooge shrugged, climbing back down out the attic. “Let me at least show you what room she wants. Come on guys.” Webby followed Scrooge down, then lead them to a door past the triplets’ and Della’s (which were towards the front of the house), in the far right wing of the manor, second floor. Webby pushed the door open, and they all walked into the room, gawking. It was a large, round room facing the courtyard, with a domed ceiling and a large curved window with a view of the back patio and pool. “Wow. The girl has taste.” Louie chuckled, looking around the dusty room. “What did this room used to be Uncle Scrooge?” Dewey asked, running his finger down the window. “Good old P6. It used to be a lot of different things. It was me first office, then it was a green room, then most recently, an observatory.” Scrooge said, pulling a lever and watching the roof open. The roof panels pulled back to reveal glass panels covering the room, facing the sky. “Oh, she liked this room before she even realized that!” Webby cried excitedly, staring up at the sky as Scrooge shut the roof again. “It’s a nerd’s paradise.” Dewey murmured, pulling a cloth off of a telescope set up in the middle of the room, coughing violently as dust billowed into the air. Louie walked up to a wall, running his fingertips down it to remove the layer of dust. “What color are the walls?” “Blue-gray we think…” Webby giggled. “We’ll get it cleaned up for Diz.” Duckworth, the resident ghost and deceased servant of Scrooge floated through the wall, picking up and flourishing a duster. “We’re on it. You kids go get whatever furniture you think she needs from the attic.” Mrs. Beakley said, carrying a vacuum into the room. “I’ll help out too!” Della said with a broad smile. “Uncle Scrooge, you wanna give us a hand?” “Well lass, I’ve got…” Scrooge scratched at his head as Della and Webby gave him big eyes. “Fine. I’ll help out too. I guess I can postpone my meeting with the Prime Minister of England.” “C’mon. Diz had her eyes on a bed frame we saw up there.” Webby waved the crew after her as she ran up towards the attic. “Stairs. I hate stairs.” Louie groaned, following behind her… “Okay Diz. You’re okay now.” Huey murmured, walking beside Launchpad, who had the girl cradled in his arms. “I feel like my muscles are on fire.” Diz hissed through gritted teeth, face contorted with pain. “You literally just got 15 different antibody infusions. Of course you feel bad.” Goldie said with a grimace, opening the front door. “You should be proud of yourself. I haven’t seen a tear yet.” Launchpad praised her as he carried her upstairs to the guest room where she was staying. “Thanks Mr. McQuack, but it’s awfully embarrassing to have to be carried.” Diz sighed. “You just need ice and rest. I’ll go ahead and get you some ice packs from the kitchen.” Huey said with a small smile, turning around to head back downstairs. “I’m sorry you feel bad. Mr. McDee doesn’t like to be taken care of when he’s sick either. I don’t mind it though.” Launchpad shrugged, hopping up on the edge of the bed at her feet. “Hey, how about a story? I can go grab a book from the library and read it to you.” He said excitedly, hopping to his feet. “You know what, that actually sounds okay Mr. McQuack. I’d like a story.” Diz grinned at the man-child, who returned it. “Just call me Launchpad. When I hear ‘Mr.’ I think of my dad.” Launchpad chuckled, patting her hand. “I’ll be right back with that book.” “What’s LP going get?” Huey asked as he came back in, toting multiple ice packs. “Oh, nothing Huey. I’m going downstairs, let me know if you kids need anything.” Goldie said, opening the door and walking out. “Will do.” Diz called, wincing. “I’ve got a major headache coming on.” Huey wrapped an ice pack in a thin cloth, gently setting it on her forehead.
“How’s that?” He asked, and she smiled, sighing deeply. “Great. Thanks Huey.” Diz murmured, sinking back into the pillows, eyes closing as relief washed over her. “You know, I noticed you were crying before we came in the room last night. You okay?” He finally asked, jumping up to sit on the foot of her bed. Her warm smile faltered and she sighed. “No Huey, I’m not okay. I’ve always had an active imagination, so it wasn’t too hard for me to process what was happening, or to make myself believe it- And it’s not like I’m the homesick girl at the sleepover who wants to go home, I’m not homesick yet, I’m actually enjoying myself! But…” “But it’s starting to set in that this isn’t just a sleepover.” Huey finished, and she nodded, eyes starting to well up again. “Honestly, it’s the idea that while I’m enjoying myself, with characters I’ve always wanted to meet, my family is worrying their heads off about me. And will be, forever. I wish we could mind wipe them or something.” Diz murmured, and Huey’s eyes lit up. “Did you just wish that? Honestly?” He whispered, and she nodded, frowning. “Diz, hold that thought, I’m going phone a friend.” Huey jumped off the bed, running out the room. All was quiet in G4 for an instant, before Launchpad came dashing in, holding a thin book in his hands. “I found the one I wanted to read to you! My mom always read it to me when I was sick!” He cried, jumping up onto the bed. She slid over so he could sit cross legged beside her on top of the blankets, and with a proud smile, he opened the book, and began to read, “One fish, two fish; red fish, blue fish.” Diz smiled to herself, nuzzling into the pillow and letting her eyes close. “Thanks LP.” She breathed as he flipped the page. “Black fish, white fish; old fish, new fish… One has a little star. My, what a lot of fish there are.” Launchpad continued, unaware that his patient had dozed off to his gentle voice… “Please. I’m not asking you to take her to another dimension, I’m just asking you to go to that dimension yourself to wipe her family’s memories of her, or make up some story to comfort them.” Huey pleaded, leaning on the kitchen counter with his phone on speaker mode in front of him. “That’s asking a lot Huey. It’s completely out of Leprechaun jurisdiction to grant wishes in another dimension!” His friend exclaimed, and Huey let out a sigh. “Niall, I really don’t know who else to turn to. Uncle Scrooge contacted every scientist and sorcerer he knows- there’s nothing anybody can do to get her home, and nothing anyone can do for her family. You’re my last hope.” Niall sighed deeply, before resolving, “Maybe I can swing by tomorrow to give it my best try.” “Oh thank you, Niall! Thank you! You’re the best!” “Good evening!” “Good evening!” Huey hung up the phone, pumping his fist. If anyone could fulfill Diz’s wish, it’d be Niall. He walked back upstairs, Dewey running up behind him on his way back to the guest room. “Huey! Huey!” Dewey hissed, and Huey stopped in his tracks. “Come with me!” “Where are we going?” He cried as Dewey dragged him along. Finally, they reached a door, with dusty furniture piled up in the hall outside it, and Huey peered inside. “Tada! What do ya’ think? Think Diz will like it?” Webby shouted as Huey walked in, eyes going wide. The whole family was inside the room, rolling fresh sky blue paint on the white walls, scrubbing the windows, and sweeping the floor. Even Scrooge was helping, holding a ladder steady for Della, who was polishing the glass ceiling. “It’s amazing.” Huey breathed, looking around with excited eyes. “How can I help?” “Here, you can be on furniture duty.” Webby tossed him a cleaning cloth from where she was dusting. He hummed to himself, polishing off all the furniture pieces until they gleamed. Then he went back in, eying a large cloth covered object in the middle of the room. He gently uncovered it, and let out a gasp. “A telescope?” “Yup. Isn’t Diz going to be so excited? Webby said she’s really into science, just like you…” Louie crooned, gently elbowing his brother and laughing. Huey just rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Hey, Uncle Scrooge? You said all your magic experts said Diz can’t be sent home, right?” Huey asked, and Scrooge turned to look at him, frowning. “No, she cannae. Why else would I have been willing to spend the time and money to fix her up a room!?” He chortled. “Why do ye ask, lad?” “Did any of them say it was impossible to communicate with the other dimension?” “Why, no. I didn’t even ask.” Scrooge’s eyes widened. “Lena said she couldn’t even do that either, but wish magic is a very powerful, rare form of magic, and leprechauns use wish magic…” Huey trailed off as Dewey sprung to feet. “Our buddy Niall!” He cried excitedly. “I already gave him a call. Niall said he might be able to mind wipe her family, or send a message or something to them. He does still owe me a wish.” Huey murmured, rubbing his hands together mischievously…
