Chapter 12: kingdom's end Defend and follow command, defending the homeland. "Courage isn't having the strength to go on, it is going on when you don't have strength." But despite saying this the young princess Idun has no courage, she is terrified. The Tsarist army marching at their doorstep is their kingdom's worst nightmare and it is happening. Their army is returning, but not the highly organized and deadly army they used to be. Idun has assembled her own Guard regiment, tho with only three battalions of six hundred troops and the three thousand new recruits that she enlisted and five thousand troops garrisoned in the kingdom, tho inexperienced and not as effective as Gausstavus' soldiers, they should be enough. The Tsar received a message from an injured captain, during the previous battle, the one that took place in the hill. A company was left behind, they surrendered but was slaughtered by the Karoliner. "Mass killing of prisoners, not a heroic deed in any way." Said the surviving captain, missing an arm and his optic partially blind. Knowing this the Tsar is furious knowing that Gausstavus has commited an atrocious war crime, he ordered his still recovering army and ordered them to reorganize as fast as possible. "Organize this allied army and march to the Karoliner's land, we will have broken the lion's teeth, now we shall put it's head on a plate." Ordered the Tsar. Princess Idun ordered the army to fortify thier kingdom, ordering them to build fortifications to try and stop or slow down the Tsarist army once they actually step foot on thier land, the princess however only fortifies the Karoliner's core territory plus the shore surrounding the recently occupied gulf and other strategic areas. The Tsarist army marched back towards the Karoliner, planning to first 'liberate' the Vampiric Commonwealth. They then plan on going back east to reclaim thier port cities, before finally marching straight at the heart of the Karoliner. Idun then proceeds to recruit soldiers from the Vampiric Commonwealth, who traditionally use lances since thier unique composition makes them glass cannons, tho more like glass lancers. They five from above attacking unsuspecting enemies and charge with thier lance, before getting out their claws and rip trough the enemy as the lancers eat them alive to replenish thier wounded bodies, however these vampires are more vulnerable against ranged weapons and would shatter against braced enemy formations. Princess Idun then turned this unique race into an elite force of skirmisher or light cavalry, flying near enemy position, fire a volley in loose order formations, get back to the sky and hide. Another way Idun wanted to use them is as elite shock cavalry, firing with their pistols before diving towards the enemy with lances against weakened enemy. Normally orbiting around the enemy and firing normally three pistol volley before diving down. She managed to gather three thousand Vampiric troops for her army, and to deal with the fact that Commonwealth troops are more fragile than the standard Karoliner, they are given extra level of protection for thier body and wings, their helmets now have menacing grey wings attached on them. The Vampiric troops once won a fight against the Tsarist army, during the Battle of Nizwagero where the Sky Vampiric Lancers attacked an unsuspecting Tsarist army by firing twenty guns at an the sides of a approaching Tsarist formation, three hundred Vampiric Lancers then dived down and ravaged the Tsarist army, lances and claws tearing apart the Tsarist troops. The Tsarist had fifteen hundred troops, but they still lost as the surviving soldiers panicked and ran away. The Vampiric Commonwealth has also won other battles against the Tsar's army but as infantry weapons technology advance creating stronger lasers, the Commonwealth became weaker. Gausstavus, along with his Grand Grenadiers continued to hid within the rocky mountains. "We have beaten them many times, and we can beat them again!" He said to his troops. Back in the Tsar's land, the escaping Karoliner starts to feel uneasy knowing the Tsar could send his army after them, and they certainly will all be decimated if that happens. "I truly hope my successor could take command of my land. I hope Idun could be the new Lion of the North..." Yuri is back, the Harbinger of Destruction. Without the Empress to stop him, he is unopposed under the blinding snowstorm of the Tsar's land. There is no escape, only destruction and chaos. The Eastern Dynasty, already completely conquering the archipelago in the southeast starts making more submarines. Thier rocket racks now built to suppress other than to destroy. The ocean is entirely theirs. In the formerly Sirrasan Republic, things aren't that good, tho most of their people accept defeat and goes on with their lives, some started plotting something. A rebellion, a resistance. An uprising. A city at war, words from the underground whispers of freedom.
