The truth is that the Celestials are multidimensional beings who travel in star-shaped spaceships. Their leader, Galvana, created small creatures called "Wubs" that lived on an unknown dimensional plane (these were the first singing monsters), but because they kept replicating, they posed a threat to reality. So, after teaching the Colossals how to sing, they took a single Wub to the Pocket Dimension, encased it in a box, and altered its genetics using electricity in the Zarröe's Ethereal Workshop to prevent it from replicating. And that was when the first Wub-box was created.
