Chapter 11: Last defense (2/2) Defend and follow command, defending the homeland. As the day slowly goes by, casualties are piling high. There is no salvation. The center has is collapsing for the Karoliner, as Tsarist forces are pressing them down with the help of reinforcements from the north, or the Karoliner's left flank. The Karoliner managed to break trough the right flank despite losses from Glacier troops. Cannons roars and pour devastating firepower from a long distance, but guns from both sides are made less effective because of the poor weather, beams of red and yellow blasting trough the field. As the Tsarist push even further, the other captured redoubt has been taken back, tho thier guns has been destroyed by the Karoliner troops as they left. Knowing the chance of victory is getting slimmer by the second, the Grand Grenadiers offered King Gausstavus to leave, but he refused wanting to fight until the bitter end. The Tsarist, seeing an opportunity to envelope the Karoliner left flank took the chance, managing to partially surround them on the left flank, while the Karoliner center and right flank are pouring and soaking fire. The Black Guards arrived and formed columns between the regular infantry lines, replacing some battalions as they were cycled back into the rear. The Dragoons dismounted and formed infantry lines as the battle rages on, some staying on horseback to harass the Karoliner, before retreating back. The Karoliner sent out their grenadiers, managing to hold the Tsarist back a bit longer, Gausstavus was shot by a Glacier tribe in the leg, but the attacking sharpshooter was quickly taken care of by the Karoliner cavalry. The battle is ending soon, but not over. Both sides already suffering heavy losses as all hell breaks loose. The Grand Grenadiers, as a final desperate actions are committed to face the Tsarist army, they advanced forwards, taking fire, firing one devastating volley before charging straight ahead at the still reloading Tsarist troops, it was a successful charge, the Tsarist center breaks, but the Black Guards are ordered to fight them off, a clash of the elite. The charge followed with brutal close quarter fighting, Disruptor Bayonets swing, thrust, stab, and cut, but it was tiring. And the arrival of the Black Guards quickly caused the Grand Grenadiers to rout, before they reorganize and fought the Tsarist one last time and after that, King Gausstavus alongside a hundred Grand Grenadiers retreated backwards hoping to escape towards neutral land. And no long after that the Karoliner regiments routed one by one. The battle ended with ten thousand casualties on the Gausstavus' army and around thirteen hundred for the Tsarist, . "It is the beginning of the end." - Tsar. On the frozen field of the previous battle, something comes to life. The Harbinger of Destruction may be slowed, it may be killed. But it alway comes back. Many has tried it before. Many, many failed. The only one who managed to disable him, is the Empress by ripping it apart into a million pieces. These pieces, slowly crawl closer and closer to each other. Nobody notices, it is almost invisible and nobody cares. But after thousands of years, it will assemble and form one being. Yuri, Harbinger of Destruction. And whoever destroys him. Destruction follows, not now. Maybe not in days or even years, maybe not in decades, maybe not in thousands of years. But it will come. Gausstavus, alongside his trusted company of Grand Grenadiers manages to escape from the battle, he knows that if he could get back to his kingdom, he could raise another army and maybe start round two, but until then, he is hiding in the rocky mountains of no man's land, a place where he got his first victory, a place he is currently in after his greatest defeat. The Tsar may have more casualties, but their army is twice thier size, three hundred is not that of a difference. He knows that some of his army survives, but it won't be enough and it will take time to reorganize the army, for now it's just a king and his troops hiding in rocky mountains. Karoliner army stood alone, king has left command. Lead is left for generals, waiting for their chance, the rout end as they rallied, far away from any Tsarist. They marched back, wishing to come back home. Their falling empire. The Tsar's army celebrated the great victory, Gausstavus could not possibly threaten them again! His elite troops are mostly killed, his army is shattered and there is nothing he could do other than going back, storming at the Karoliner's doorstep could wait, a victory parade couldn't. back home, hearing news of the defeat. The young princess Idun current leader and Gausstavus' successor panicked, she realized there is a chance the king can't return and she would have to face the Tsarist alone, noticing this she raised another army. Not a massive one, not a strong experienced one, just one that should work holding off the Tsar's army, hopefully.
