Chapter 14 "Stop right there!" Liz slowly lifted her hands above her head. "Who are you and where do you think you're going?" Liz slowly turned around and her eyes locked with a pair of black pupils. It was a guy, he looked like he was about 16 years old. Unlike the two men from earlier, he was wearing a pale cream T-shirt and denim shorts. "What are you doing here?", he asked stepping closer. Liz blinked. This boy seemed to be completely clueless. Either that, or he was trying to trick her to believe he didn't know what was happening. Liz studied his face as she lowered her hands. She found no sign of deceit. Only confusion. Suspicion. And more confusion. He really was clueless and she decided to use that to her advantage. "I'm Elizabeth and I was just searching for someone here and I got lost. Do you know where the exit is? I would like to get some fresh air." Liz felt a bit guilty for lying like that to someone she just met but it couldn't be helped. The boy looked thoughtful for a while before flashing her a grin, "Just keep walking straight and take a left on the second corridor and you're there." Liz listened attentively and repeated the instructions. Walk straight, take a left on the second corridor. Easy enough. She expressed her gratitude to the boy and was just about to leave before he extended his hand. "I'm Albert." She hesitated before shaking his hand and smiling. " Nice to meet you, Albert." As she turned and walked away she heard him call from behind her, "Don't get lost again, Elizabeth." She smiled but didn't answer. Everything was going perfectly fine for approximately 5 minutes. She walked straight and reached the first corridor and stopped. Something caught her attention. She fought the urge to enter the room on the right and failed spectacularly. Curiosity killed the cat after all. Have you ever had a clear motion and objective in mind until you saw something that completely stole your attention at first glance? That was exactly what happened to Liz. The room was dark lit only by a small candle. Maria Wimble was, apparently, very old fashioned. There was a desk that was empty except for an old book and a pen. Under normal circumstances, nobody would find that interesting but maybe it was because the book was glowing. Or maybe because the book was flipping pages by itself? Or maybe Liz was simply hallucinating? Or the effects of the sedative were finally getting to Liz. She blinked as her eyes struggled to focus. She staggered towards the desk and took the book. It was really glowing in her hands she felt the heat it emanated. The book was worn at the edges. She skimmed through the contents of the book. Just writing, writing and more writing. Then the writing stopped and was replaced by detailed illustrations and charts of what resembled expensive jewels of different colors but what caught her attention was the red jewel that Maria Wimble had accused her of taking and another drawing showing hands surrounded by a red glow like what happened to Liz's hands back in the room with the two men. "Interesting, this might be useful", Liz thought as she put the book beneath her arm. It would, at least help her to understand why these strange things were happening to her. She was about to head out when she heard footsteps and panicked. A shadow appeared at the door of the room. With that Liz scrambled to take cover beneath the desk. The footsteps sounded louder and clearer as they approached then silence.
