Please do not send anything beyond this to oorp chat. If you have any further questions, feel free to consult me. Not very strict on prefixes, but there are some rules to follow. Rule 1) Do NOT name the kit something that the kit's parents would NOT name them. Think of it as your parents named you 'blob'. i don't think you'd like that. This rule basically applies to almost anything on here. Rule 2) Names shouldn't be negative! Look at poor little Hotdogkit, they don't deserve such a name! My child... you were so innocent *sobs* Example names: Weakkit, Uglykit, Brokenkit, Monsterkit, Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosiskit, Fatkit, etc. *Please, for holidays, do not name your kit something silly. i.e for halloween, bookit, werewolfkit, mummy kit, etc. But I don't mind the names Batkit, Pumpkinkit, and names that don't represent decor and stuff. Please do note that some names are completely valid, i.e maggotkit. Please do not name kits these if you have the intention of using them as insults. Rule 3) Species, Genesus, etc. not allowed! Please do not name your kit anything scientific. I wouldn't want to call my pet hamster a Mesocricetus auratus and I don't think the kit would like that either! I guess if there's a singular word that doesn't sound super scientific and is based off a plant.......go ahead..... if you question the name, please run it by me. Rule 4) No hyphens or spaces! If it's two words and spaces or hyphenated, you can't remove the space/hyphen and say it works cuz it just doesn't. i.e Goober'kevinkit =Gooberkevinkit. NO WORK Rule 5) Names should not reference 13+ material I feel like you guys should already know this, but please don't. Rule 6) Unknown words shall not become 'known' words if it is already a known word. i.e Mankit is not valid because magokit is. Rule 7) names should not refer to disabilities. This is so important. Please, you could be incredibly disrespectful to anybody and everybody. I'm aware that it does happen in books, but please, I don't want this to happen in my role-play. Plus, the books don't have multiple accounts of ableist writing! i.e: Scarkit, stutteringkit, limpkit. Rule 7.5) Some names are ok, if used in certain implications. Burnkit is valid if referring to a smokey pattern, and not a horrible scar or tragic incident! Rule 8) Words that have two meanings and one of which is very well known, while the other os not. People may want to cheat by using names and putting them in the litter. please, do not do this. i.e the name 'Gaykit'. Yes, gay does mean a male only attracted to other males (stereotypically), but it does also mean 'happy'. I think we all understand why a kit cannot be named that. Another note that should be important is that some names are completely valid in this scenario. An example is Oasiskit because 'oasis' does not refer to anything else. Rule 9) Gendered words, sexualities, etc. not allowed. Sexualities, pronouns, genders, etc. are not allowed for obvious reasons. No, I don't mind the genders and sexualities you give the kits, but please do NOT name your kit something like "transkit" or "Theykit." Rule 10) It is completely fine to name your kit something that does not follow the clan naming system. Clan naming systems do have some concerns about 'appropriation of indigenous cultures' thing that books are really into doing. From the wc community, some clan names aren't banned, but don't put them upon someone who is not comfortable using the names. Rule 11) Human objects and words- No! Please do not name your kit anything like 'hammerkit' or 'Bobkit'. Another thing to be taken into consideration is if the name is something you'd name a pet. i.e (low-key this is what my dog's name is) buffy, so buffykit would not be permitted. Winter/summer not valid as well as Aprilkit, Junekit (unless referring to a Junebug), Januarykit, etc.
Rule 12) (maybe) Warrior cat words I would very much prefer to not see any upwalkerkits or crowfoodkits. I guess there's nothing strictly wrong with it but...............n-noo please spare meeeeee...... Another example, please do not name your kit Dirtkit because we all know what that refers to in wc. I guess Thunderpathkit, Leaffallkit are ok, but it just doesn't;t sound right to me. Rule 13) Moonkit, Cometkit, Asteroidkit, etc. preferably not permitted. Honestly, I don't have a quarrel with the names Starkit (as long as no become leader lol), moonkit is fine, comet kit I guess. Planets are ok, just as long as they are visible to your naked eye. Rule 14) Kit, Paw, NOOOO. Just no. Rule 15) Numbers.... I guess one is fine if you're referring to one spot, one stripe or something on the fur. Rule 16) Some words just...can't work as letters. i.e Us, we am, the, I, A. Rule 17) Names should relate to the kit I know that some of you may wan to name your kit something really silly, but the name should collaborate with the kit. Also, please make sure that you are using names that actually have meaning. Rule 18) Don't make the names super long Yeah guys...Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobiakit is NOT valid. Please do not name any kits things that have a random meaning or a name that is very long. Anything over 10 letters would be considered a no, but if you have any questions about the name, please ask me or any of my co-hosts and supervisors. The name should be reasonable pleaseeeeeee Rule 19) I may have been okay with names from the past, but that doesn't mean it's ok now! I understand you may be bummed put because of this, but please respect the rp and litter mods. Rule 20) Loner and Kittypet names Honestly, I don't really give a crap about this. Go ahead and name your cat 'Bowlkit'. Some names could be really long, weird and dorky like the name 'Kimchi lord.' Just as long as you have a nickname for storage and other things, I don't care :P Rule 21) NO PLURAL NAMES i.e stormskit, cactikit, Foxeskit, Rockskit Rule 22) I don't really care! Yes, I may have just made a list of 22 reasons of names and what is and is not valid, but I don't care! I don't have particularly strong opinions about names, and I don't want this to become something people feel the need to argue over. If you believe a name is valid and you're reasonably confident that it follows the naming rules, you're welcome to use it! If you're genuinely unsure, feel free to ask OORP for a second opinion. If they're uncertain as well, you can ask a litter mod for clarification. Ultimately, please use your best judgment and common sense when choosing names. If a name has little to no chance of being considered a Warriors-style name, it's probably best to choose something else. That's really all there is to this list! Please be respectful toward me and the litter mods, and, of course, use some consideration when naming the fictional kittens. They deserve better than a name that makes everyone question what happened. :') Thank you! (inso from @generations-)
