Welcome to a new series I call the "Wacky calculators". These are small calculator projects that I make that won't serve the majority of people, but might come in clutch for your AP biology class (hint hint) (Explanation) Water potential is essentially how much water wants to move and where. An example is placing a cell inside a suger-water filled beaker. The cell has a pressure potential (Ψp) of 0.3MPa, and a solute potential (Ψs) of -0.7MPa. The water potential is simply the sum of these two values. Sugar does not ionize in water, which makes this example easy. (Finding Ψs) The molar concentration is usually one. The pressure constant is 0.0831 and stays the same. Then you have the temperature in Kelvin. Multiply everything together (with i being negative) and you get a number! This project does the hard part which is calculating the solute potential (Ψs = -iCRT) would you wanna do that constantly? Me neither. That's why I made this project!
