Chapter 13 Maria, however seemed perfectly calm. She looked at Liz for a moment too long before stepping out of the way. "Shoot." Maria walked out of the room with Jessica meekly following her out. Soon, only Elizabeth, the old lady and the two armed men were left in the room. Liz heard the sound of the trigger on the guns being pulled and bullets being shot. Instinctively, her hands shielded her face as the bullets left the guns. Her eyes were closed. 'I lived a good life.' 'I just wish I had more time, but at least Emelia will be alive, that's what matters most' Liz waited for her fate. A second passed. Two seconds. Soon, 30 seconds, slowly she lowered her hands. She looked at the two men who were just as bewildered as she was. Several bullets were pointed directly at her, suspended in the air, almost as if time had frozen the bullets alone. Up close, they resembled small sharp needles with a deadly sedative as ammo. They were suspended in midair as if gravity was merely an option for the bullets. Then Liz noticed her hands, there was a red glow surrounding her hands, the same glow that surrounded the suspended bullets. Liz stared. The men stared. The old lady stared. They then dropped harmlessly to the ground. There was a long painful silence afterwards. One of the men lowered his gun completely in shock. The other, however, pulled the trigger again shooting several bullets directly at Liz. Liz didn't even have time to lift her hands but the result was similar to the first. The bullets suspended just short of touching Liz. Liz looked at the bullets then at the men, her fingers curled around the blankets she was covered with. The bullets, still suspended in the air then exploded into tiny sparks. The atmosphere was then contaminated with the chemicals used to make the sedative making it deadly to inhale. Liz held her breath as she fumbled with the ropes tying her hands and feet. One armed man dropped to his knees and the other stumbled to the ground, both falling unconscious. Liz then leaned as far as the ropes would allow and grabbed a pocket knife from the jacket of an armed man who collapsed in front of the bed. She managed to cut the ropes and get out of the bed. She was about to leave before she noticed her luggage in a corner of the room. She picked it and was just about to leave when she saw the old lady on the ground gasping for air. Liz knew she could leave but watching the old lady who had taken care of her suffer like that shattered whatever little restraint she had left. She rushed to her side. "Are you okay? Would you want water or something?", Liz asked as she knelt beside her. " I'm sorry for putting you in a situation like this. Whatever you do, don't take Madam's word for....", She was interrupted by a cough. Liz was already beginning to feel dizzy from the effect of the sedative. The old lady then reached into her pocket and pulled out a few notes. She slipped it into Liz's hand and smiled at her. "Take it.... You'll need it." With that, her eyes fluttered shut as she drifted into sleepy unconsciousness. Liz held the money firmly before slipping it into the pocket of her small suitcase and nodding. With that she walked out of the room carefully monitoring her movements. Her eyes were heavy but she urged her feet to move forward. She was just out the door before she heard a loud masculine voice behind her "Stop right there!" With that she stopped and lifted her hands in the a
