It begins when business partners William Afton and Henry Emily open Fredbear's Family Diner using dangerous springlock suits. Tragedy strikes when William's oldest son accidentally causes the Bite of '83, crushing his younger brother, whose soul possesses Golden Freddy. Driven to madness and an obsession with life-extending "remnant", William murders Henry's daughter Charlie (who possesses the Puppet) and multiple other children, stuffing their corpses into restaurant animatronics. William's surviving son, Michael, spends his life tracking down these haunted machines and his murderous father, a quest that ends when Henry orchestrates a massive fire in a fake pizzeria, burning down the facility to finally free the trapped souls and destroy the remaining entities—though digital corruption and remnants of Afton's evil later resurface in future high-tech iterations like the Mega Pizzaplex.
