DTAE for Spine! name: Sulka Gender: She.her Occupation: goddess of souls. guides lost souls to the underworld. Pet: a death's head hawk moth named Reaper. where'd I put her: in my comic FEARED (i'll link the first chapter elsewhere since I write it on my alt.) Lore/Backstory: Sulka wanders the world of Pangoro. Like most gods, not everyone believes Sulka really exists. they find out they were wrong when they d!3 tho. Sulka silently walks around Pangora at night, collecting any souls that may have d13d that day and brings them to underworld so they can rest for eternity. she uses her lantern to spot the souls and acts as a light for them to follow. Sulka is a huge sweetheart and usually gives the souls one last wish to see loved ones before they are put to rest in the underworld. most souls when they first see her get freaked out, but her lanterns light draws them in like a moth to a light and they comply. some souls give Sulka gifts; charms for her lantern. (and sometimes stuff for Reaper). there is a myth among the living that if you want your loved one to arrive in the underworld safely under her light, then you have to put a red flower in the deceased's mouth as payment. this is actually a true myth. while Sulka guides all... those that don't have a flower in their mouth are lead without being able to see her light, thus losing her protection. Sulka collects the flowers and places them as an accessory. as part of her crown or as a bracelet or sewn onto her cloak. her cloak infarcts, not only makes Sulka thinks she looks pretty, but gives off this soothing aura to calm down souls and make them more likely to follow. her veil does the same along with calm down any living dragons grief. Sulka has encountered a few souls who has put up a fight, so her spine-like tail has a stinger at the tip that can paralyze souls so they are more compatible to travel. Sulka doesn't have a mouth, so to communicate, she uses body language and grunts growls. (she can still make sound, just not talk). there are many stories that try to explain Sulka's creation. some say that she is a daughter of Solstice, creator of the universe. some say that she arrived from a different world after the Great War to collect souls that p3r!sh3d in battle and just stayed. others say that she formed from the first bodies, and that each of her bones are a different dragon. no one knows the true story, and are disappointed when they realize they can't ask her herself. one night while Sulka was wandering, a Death's Head Hawkmoth landed on her and started eating her flowers nectar and has just stuck around. Sulka doesn't mind and quite enjoys the company. Sulka named the moth Reaper. (she writes in the dirt with her lantern but her handwriting frankly sucks and doesn't have time for long conversations). to this day, Sulka wanders at night, and with Reapers help, gathers souls for another night's voyage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hehehe. Sulka's backstory is based off of Greek Mythology of Charon. Charon is said to be a ferryman that brings shades to the underworld through the River of Styx. Charon's mythology is said that he will only take the shades down the river of Styx if they are buried with a coin called a obal in their mouth as that shades fee. if they don't pay, the shade just wanders around the surface as a ghost. (this is where the flower idea came from :3) and I looked up what a cloak and veil mean in Greek mythology to keep up the theme and it turns out they symbolize protection and hospitality and travel. which was already like the whole idea of Sulka. (the veil has a mix in of being used to hide shame and grief. so I added that in as well.)
