Though they may not be able to alter their course, they have the insight into it's possible ends. Althea is one of these, a high being capable of much more than the mortal mind could ever comprehend. Fate isn't a single, unchanging path. Instead, it winds up being a web, each thread a possibility. Some glow brighter than the stars in the sky, while some will fade with the slightest change. So, Althea rarely interacts with mortals, turning to watch her prophets instead. In truth, Althea isn't heartless, she's truly fond of the living. She finds their brief existences fascinating, determination endearing. It could be that that is what drives her to save some. They return to consciousness, unknowing of what happened before, finding only a single gleaming feather beside them. Althea has never confirmed her involvement, and to many angels and prophets, it still is a mystery.
