Vitiligo is a condition caused by the dylng or lack of melanin, which causes loss of skin color in certain areas of the body, hair, or mouth. This condition is not congagious, nor does it affect the effected besides apperance. The patches of lost color usually get larger over time, and can spread throuout the body. It can occur thtougout the whole body, in a specific area, or in small patches. It is caused by the destruction of melanocytes, or the cells that make the melaninprotein. This can happen when the skin is damaged, like with a scar or chemicals, or can simply happen over time in accordance with the condition. Vitiligo progression can also be triggered by emotional distress. The exact cause of why the melanocytes are destroyed is unknown, however it is believed that it is a type of autoimmune dissorder. Vitiligo affects the skin and henceforth hair cells, so any area of a feline's body is succeptible. This is also true for the eyes, because the pigment of the iris may change, however not dramatically. A little paleness of the iris is possible, but a greatly distinguishable change is not. If the eye color pales, the eye becomes more sentitive to light. Vitiligo can be inherited, so if a roleplayer owning a cat with vitiligo chooses to have their cat parent kittens, it is possible the kittens may be affected.
