Chapter 9: Fortify them! "I will make nations bend and bow by my feet." "The Tsar has awoken me from my sarcophagus. He has awaken ruinous powers, and the Harbinger of Destruction himself. My refabricator drones shall reduce you to nothing, your army shall burn under the fire of my assault drones. Gausstavus, you have no idea what you are facing. My legion may be small, only the size of a single company, but this is will be the end of your madness. Destroyed Black Guards shall rise again and return to duty, your cavalry charges shall be stopped as they are reduced to nothing but matter to be recycled." - Yuri "It is a deal then, the Harbinger of Destruction will send Gausstavus and the Karoliner back to thier land." Yuri said, looking at the Tsar as he releases bolts of lighting from his back, his optic's red fading for a split second. "Very well, comrade. We should confront Gausstavus one more time, before Beaubean's legion could join him, if that fails? A last stand will be held at the capital using everything we have left, the fate of the Tsardom is the risk." The Tsar answered, before Yuri answers "There will be no battle on the capital. I will make sure of that." The abomination floats away, escorted by squadrons of refabricator drones who repairs his body non stop. "Serve me that abomination's head on a plate. That's a king's order." Said Gausstavus as a scout returns to him with the information about Yuri's plan on facing him before Beaubean could join the main Karoliner army. Gausstavus is more furious knowing that the Glacier tribes and King Sigismund is joining the attack as well. Gausstavus has a plan to fall back to a nearby hill, meet Beaubean's allied army and refortify it. The army marched trough the night, horses tow guns as snow covers thier footprints, troops holding their weapons firmly, thier Disruptor Bayonets turned off as officers rode in-between the lines. As the arrive on the hill, the Grand Grenadiers are kept as a tactical reserve, kept in good condition and are stationed at the center of the hill. Shock cavalry are placed between infantry lines, some behind them. Artillery surrounds the hill, making sure fire support is available for any angle. Scout cavalry patrols the position in small loose squadrons. Ready to pick off any foe in their path with hit and run tactics. The allied Tsarist army marched towards the hill, skirmishers and Yuri's legion screening the main army. Guns in the front towed by horses, hate fills the army's optics as colours held high as they moved even closer, they formed lines. Black Guards formed columns behind and serve as reserve. Dragoon mounted infantry and horse archers protects the left and right flanks, ready to strike. The battle begins with skirmishers and Yuri's legion harassing the Karoliner scout cavalry, they didn't stay still and charged at them. Seeing the cavalry coming, Yuri ordered his legion to withdraw, leaving the Tsarist Jaeger companies behind as they rout back. A scout brings reports of Yuri falling back, the Tsar will not let this act of cowardice unpunished, and sends a company of Black Guards to give Yuri and his legion a summary execution. But his drones are basically autonomous machines with no mind, they can still be a threat, however they can't attack friendly troops. And the Black Guards massacred the retreating drones, Yuri was killed by a Disruptor Bayonets straight in the optics. Little do they know soon, this will cost them everything. The battle rages on, tho both sides wanted their guns to hold their fire until they are within Scatterblast range to prevent them from overheating prematurely. Until now, only the Karoliner scout cavalry and Tsarist Jaergers have faced each other. "His cowardice costed him his life. That is not a retreat, that is treason." - Tsar. The Tsar saw Beaubean's legion arriving, and after some calculation, he realized his army can't arrive in time. The only way now, is either a futile charge or retreat. And with them losing the majority of battles against the Karoliner army, the Tsar ordered them to retreat but to prevent the Karoliner from pursuing them, the Jaeger Strachzi battalion consisting of four companies are ordered to do a last stand, buying them as much time as they could. They did a good job, even earning the Karoliner's respect. "These brave troops sacrificed themselves to protect ours. Do not make the pointless, the second army is going to be done by the time we arrive. A heroic defense near the capital, we shall be remembered as the greatest." - Tsar The Harbinger may be destroyed. But Armageddon follows.
