She heard a muffled “coming” and then the door opened, revealing a familiar face. “Autumn?” She whispered, hoping she wasn’t wrong. But she didn’t need to worry. The other dragon’s face lit up in joy. “Flicker! It’s you!” She exclaimed, wrapping her wings around Flicker. For a moment, Flicker was overwhelmed with emotion at seeing her sister again. And then the warmth from Autumn’s wings lifted away from her back. “I forgot we’re still at the front door,” Autumn said. “Come on in.” When the door was closed, Flicker turned to Autumn. “What have you been doing these last few years?” “Yellowjacket Hive University. I graduated a few days ago. I just moved in yesterday, so I still have a lot of boxes to unpack. But father’s doing well.” “That’s good. I could do all of the unpacking though, it’s my new job—” Flicker began uncertainly. Autumn grabbed Flicker’s wrist fiercely, causing her to flinch. “No! You’re my sister! I won’t let you do all that work! Besides, I’m still a SilkWing hybrid.” “Okay, but only here. We can’t walk side by side in public.” Flicker sighed. “Anyways, do you have a job yet?” “Silverfish is working on getting a shop for our bookstore business,” Autumn explained, and gestured to her sister to follow. “But enough with the questions. I’m going to show you your room.” Upstairs, they passed by a doorway leading into a spacious sunny room with some boxes, a wooden bookshelf, and a balcony, which Flicker guessed was Autumn’s room. Her sister stopped at the empty room next to it, which was almost as big and had some honeycomb windows. “I’ll leave you to settle in, while I prepare food,” Autumn said, nudging her sister towards the doorway. She disappeared down the stairs, leaving Flicker in her new room. Earlier today, I was disappointed at being a servant. But it gives me the chance I’ve always wanted—to see Autumn again. She put her bag on the silk bed and smiled at the doorway. Maybe wishes really do come true after all.
