Event at the end of the Cretaceous boiled masses. While the apex predators of the surface perished, a abelisaurid lineage found salvation in the abyssal trenches of the Tethys Ocean. Over millions of years, these land hunters surrendered their running legs to the deep, becoming ocean dwelling carnivores with hydrodynamic fingers, bio-luminescent brow horns and jaws engineered to crack the thickest shelled cephalopods. These deep sea predators hunted the ancient Nautilus populations in the bathypelagic dark. Their reproduction was governed by extreme environmental necessity. The balance shattered in the mid-20th century during deep ocean nuclear testing. Rather than creating a single massive mutant through simple ingestion, the oceanic radioactive fallout concentrated inside the deep-sea siphonophore and glass-sponge ecosystems. The Nautilus populations, absorbing the irradiated particulate, developed heavily reinforced, cobalt-infused shells as a defensive bio-mineral mutation. In response to this hyperdense, radioactive prey base, a single juvenile abelisaurid developed a symbiotic cellular reaction. Upon consuming these heavy shells, its metabolism fused with the biominerals, triggering a runaway evolutionary leap. Its skin crystallized into an iridescent, chitinous armor, while its vestigial arms expanded into massive, muscular hydraulic scythes capable of manipulating oceanic currents. Now an immortal leviathan powered by internal radiological synthesis, the creature no longer required organic sustenance. Yet, driven by an ancestral phantom hunger, it abandoned the deep-sea trenches and migrated toward the coastlines. Drawn not by prey, but by the intense electromagnetic signatures of human coastal power grids, which mirror the glowing biosignatures of its ancient, vanished feeding grounds.
