@Nairueni @ThebruhisAlt1111 for the outline Lore: Dreadnoughts are walking tanks serving as sarcophagi for mortally wounded Space Marines, preserving their minds and wills within a massive war machine. The interment is a privilege for honored veterans, providing them with immense combat power and acting as a repository for their wisdom, although the experience is a lonely and often torturous existence of constant pain and isolation. These legendary figures continue to serve the Imperium, sometimes for millennia, as powerful and resilient walking tombs armed with heavy weapons and acting as mobile fortresses. The Purpose of a Dreadnought A Tomb for the Living: When a Space Marine suffers an injury so severe that their body cannot be saved, they are interred within a Dreadnought sarcophagus, with their brain and remaining vital organs linked to the machine's life support systems. Extended Service: The Dreadnought allows the warrior to continue their duty to the Emperor and humanity, providing a way to preserve their legendary combat prowess and invaluable strategic knowledge. A Symbol of Hope and Resilience: To loyalist Chapters, Dreadnoughts represent the enduring spirit of the Space Marines, a testament to their unwavering commitment even in the face of near-certain death. The Experience of Being a Dreadnought Physical Trauma and Sensory Deprivation: The interred Marine is often still in constant pain from their terminal injuries, which are not healed by the sarcophagus. They lose their natural senses, experiencing the world through the machine's external optics and sensors. Mental and Emotional Strain: The experience is a terrifying and isolating one, sometimes exacerbated by the immense strain placed on their damaged minds by the machine's mind-impulse unit. Stasis and Periodic Awakening: Many Dreadnoughts are kept in stasis to preserve their sanity and avoid the trauma of extended deployment, being awakened only for critical missions or when a severe threat arises. Variants and Legacy Diverse Forms and Functions: There are many different types and patterns of Dreadnoughts, each specialized for various tasks, from fire support to assault roles. Ancient Technology: Dreadnought technology is ancient and barely understood by the 41st millennium, with secrets and maintenance techniques sometimes lost to time. Ancient Heroes: Some Dreadnoughts have served for thousands of years, becoming living legends, like Bjorn the Fell-Handed of the Space Wolves, accumulating vast stores of wisdom and battle experience.
