NOTE: This fanfic is set from before Annabeth met Luke and Thalia. Hi, I'm Phaedra. If you're reading this, you're probably a demigod like me, or a mortal with Clear Sight. To normal mortals, this book is 'The History of Leonardo Da Vinci' or something. To people who can see through the mist, this book is about the Daughter of Artemis: Me. You're probably wondering 'But That's Impossible!' and 'Didn't Artemis swear not to have kids?' Well Hestia did too, and she's Oludare's Godly parent. Anyways, I don't have a dad. That's because Artemis created me out of moonlight. I also never had a childhood too, because when she made me, she made me permanently 14 years old, to guide her Hunters forever as a messenger whenever she cannot. Well, that's what she thought would happen. This story doesn't start with me though, even though it's about me. It starts with a young girl, around thirteen, named Naomi. *** Naomi: My eyes snapped open from Celyn ferociously shaking me awake. I jolted and sat up quickly. Did I do something wrong? Did I sleep in? What I found out was even worse. "Naomi!" Celyn said, her voice full of worry. That's when I knew it was serious. Celyn was always cool, charismatic, and she never, never worried unless something serious has happened. "What happened, Celyn?" I asked, my hands shaking as I reached for my bow and quiver. "It's Phaedra," she said. "She went missing." Did I hear that right? Was this all an elaborate prank? Phaedra can't have disappeared. It's because she's... Phaedra! Our guide! The daughter of Artemis! But then again, Celyn wouldn't joke about something this serious. "Is Artemis here?" I asked. "Does she know anything about Phaedra's disappearance?" Celyn stayed silent, grabbing my wrist and pulling me out of the tent. All the other Hunters of Artemis were outside standing in a circle, panicking and whispering to each other. Inside the circle they had formed was Artemis. "My hunters!" she said. "It seems as though my daughter has disappeared. Please remain calm." Celyn snorted at the word 'calm'. I nudged her elbow. "We will go to Camp Half-Blood, and visit the Oracle of Delphi," Artemis continued. Everyone fell silent. Most of us were demigods who were in the war between the Greeks and the Romans. I'm Demeter's daughter. Celyn is Hermes'. Lily shuffled her feet nervously, and wouldn't make eye contact with anyone. I felt a wave of empathy for her. She's a child of Ares, and watched many of her siblings fall. She hoped to never return to Camp Half-Blood again and to avoid her traumatic past. She never talks about it; not even Artemis knows. Zoe, the Goddess' lieutenant, stepped forward. She has been part of the Hunters for around two millennia. "Of course, My Lady," she said. "Shall we go now?" Artemis nodded, and disappeared in a flash of light and silver dust. Zoe turned to face all of us. "Get thy chariots ready," she said. "This will be a long journey." Then, all of the sudden, my knees buckled, and I fainted. *** Phaedra: Where... Am I? was the first thing that came to my mind, when I opened my eyes. I scanned my surroundings. Was I in a cellar? The last thing I remembered was keeping watch while my 'sisters' (metaphorically) slept, making sure there were no monsters nearby. I looked at myself. There were chains. But they weren't solid. They were made of literal dark matter. I looked at the prison bars. Dark energy. There was only one person I knew that could've done this: The primordial goddess of the night. "Nyx!" I yelled. My voice echoed. Suddenly, I heard a malevolent chuckle. A woman emerged from the other side of the bars. She had dark, reddish-blackish hair and wore a sleeveless red dress with a single thick, golden shoulder strap. In her hand was a golden apple. "Close," she said, voice deep, rich, and eloquent. "I'm her daughter." I narrowed my eyes. "Why am I here?" I hissed. "There's already enough chaos in this world, Eris." "Daughter of Artemis," she laughed. "There's never enough chaos in this world. And I'm not the villain. I'm protecting you and the Hunters of Artemis." "Liar!" I snapped. "Tell me the truth." Eris merely laughed again, then disappeared. *** Naomi: I had the weirdest dream of all time. I know demigod dreams were always weird, vague, and cryptic, with only one actual proper clue, but this? There's not even a single straightforward hint! I dreamt that I was Apollo, riding my chariot across the world. Then, it changed to me eating an apple. Then, I was in a forest, standing in front of someone dressed as a warrior. All that lasted 1/12 of my dream. Next, I was in a plain white room. In the centre was a quartz pedestal. On that pedestal was a golden apple. I knew that golden apple. "Eris?" I called out. A holographic of the Goddess of Chaos shimmered before me. "Naomi Thompson," she said. "Don't try and find Phaedra. It's for your own good."
