While each element has a certain number of protons, they can have any number of neutrons. variations for each individual element are isotopes, and ones for all elements are nuclides. Different isotopes aren't different characters, and most of the time, the differences are very subtle. Hydrogen is the exception, as unlike all the others, his isotopes have separate names he calls them! Deutrium, aka Hydrogen-2: The only other stable Hydrogen other than his base form, which he calls Protium. While as Deutrium, he's stouter, and can take on higher temperatures, earning him the nickname "Heavy Hydrogen". While as Protium, he likes to form water with Oxygen, as Deutrium, they form heavy water, which is much denser. Tritium, aka Hydrogen-3: Hydrogen's radioactive form, which has a half-life of about 12 years. In this form, he's very luminous (that means he makes his own light), and is often around to mark things more clearly, like watches or exit signs. When he teams with Oxygen, they make tritiated water, a radioactive form of water used to measure age of other liquids. Each of these isotopes have seemingly different weights and uses to the point where they may seem like entirely different elements! But no matter how many neutrons, it's still Hydrogen!
