DIZ’S ORIGIN STORY (written by @DisneyNerd26) Part 7: The Mists of… Grime. (Music: At Your Worst - Callum Scott) “Let’s drop off our school stuff, then we can go see what the girls are up to!” Huey charged up the stairs with his backpack, brothers following close behind. “Whoa! I’ve never seen you drop your backpack so fast!” Dewey laughed as they all went into their bedroom to set their stuff down and change out of their uniforms. A loud CRASH came from outside the bedroom door and the boys exchanged a glance. “Diz? Webby?” Louie called, still tugging his hoodie over his head. “We’re fine! But we could use another couple sets of hands if you’re done getting dressed!” Webby shouted back, over another thunderous THWACK, and Louie hesitantly reached for the knob. “Uh, do you think we *really* need to go help?” He asked, sticking his hands back in his pockets, eyeing the door nervously. A shriek rung out around them, and Huey pitched open the door, running out into the hall. His brothers followed to meet a dense green mist settling, making it impossible to see more than a foot in front of their eyes. “Webby!? What are we dealing with here?” Dewey shouted into the murk, squinting to see. “Diz and I may have released Nessie while you guys were at school!” Webby exclaimed. “Nessie!?” The boys cried out in synchrony. “Yeah! The Loch Ness monster! It was the first monster Scrooge ever fought!” Diz laughed awkwardly. “What’s this green fog?” Louie shouted, sniffing the air. “We’re not sure! Nessie breathed it out right before you guys came out, then ran downstairs. Perhaps a form of camouflage?” Diz replied, and Huey sniffed the air too, before sticking out his tongue. He smacked his lips, eyes widening. “Guys! Try not to swallow any of this! It’s algae and may be toxic!” He shouted into the haze. “Too late!” Louie cried. “Louie!” They all groaned. “Where was she anyhow? I’ve released all the monsters in the garage, and I think all of them in the ancient artifacts room too over the years, and I’ve never seen Nessie.” Dewey questioned, extending his hands blindly to feel for anyone nearby. “In an old trunk in the attic! We certainly weren’t expecting a mythical sea serpent to be trapped inside!” Webby grumbled, listening intently for footsteps nearby. She heard footsteps and threw out her arms, hitting someone. “Ouch!” “It’s me, Louie. I found Louie!” Webby cried, looping her arm through his. Louie grinned over at her and nodded, both of them extending their opposite hands into the mist. “Gotcha!” Louie laughed as his fingertips found someone and locked onto them by the back of the shirt. He pulled the person closer to see he had grabbed Dewey. “I found Dewey! And Dewey found the bedroom doorknob! We’re going to go inside and figure out a course of action, Huey, Diz, you two hold still.” Diz heard the door shut, and all fell silent. “Huey? Are you still there?” She called hesitantly. “Yeah, I haven’t moved. I don’t know how far away you are, but I’m still here.” “I’ve got an idea. Kneel down on the floor, and tap on it. I’ll use the vibrations to find you.” Diz suggested, and Huey smiled, kneeling down and knocking repetitively against the floorboards. “Oh cool. It’s seems like it’s working!” She laughed. She kicked something and stumbled, falling forward onto a large lump which flattened out against the floor under her weight. “Ow.” Huey groaned. “You found me, alright.” “I’m so sorry Huey!” Diz cried out, clambering off of his back and helping him up onto his knees. “This was revenge, wasn’t it?” He accused, and they both burst into laughter. Diz began coughing, and Huey put out a hand, gently patting her on the back. “Diz, if your body is brand new, wouldn’t you have an immune system equivalent to a newborn’s?” Huey asked, and her eyes went wide. “But my eyesight transferred over, almost identically. And so did my hair. So wouldn’t my immunity transfer too?” She questioned, coughing into her fist. “Not necessarily. You may still have immunity for the germs in your dimension, but if the germs here are the least bit mutated, if not totally different…” He trailed off and her eyes went wide. “My existing immunity wouldn’t do me much good.” She whispered, meeting his gaze. “We need to get you of this algae now. Who knows? Nessie could be carrying a variety of diseases, some that I may not even be resistant to.” Huey said, jumping to his feet and pulling her up after him. “Dewey! Louie! Webby!” He bellowed, gripping Diz’s hand firmly. “Uncle Scrooge just trapped Nessie again downstairs! He opened the front door to let the house start venting out, we just have to wait for the mist to dissipate!” Louie cried back. “Louie, we don’t have time to wait it out! Diz and I just realized she’s not immune to anything, because her body isn’t resistant to the germs in our dimension. She could be catching a list worth of diseases out here!” Huey shouted, looking around blindly.
“My phone is in the room! Louie, call Uncle Scrooge again, and tell him we need to get Diz to a doctor. Dewey, among my JW gear there should be a spotlight that can pierce through even this murk. Shine it from the doorway, and Diz and I will go to the light. Webby, find us an easy way down to the ground from the bedroom window.” Huey instructed, and heard the door shut again. “I got the light!” Dewey cried, and their bedroom door creaked open. “It’s not piercing very far into the mist, but can you guys see it?” “I think I do! C’mon Huey, it’s behind you.” Diz said, pointing out a faint light beam. They clutched onto each other, running blindly for the light. “Where are you guys?” Dewey asked worriedly, squinting into the green. He was suddenly bowled over, Huey and Diz landing on top of him. Louie dashed over, slamming the door shut behind them. “Yes, yes, yeah, that’s what they’ve hypothesized too. Webby is going to get us out from the window. Meet us out front.” Louie said into the phone pressed against his ear, nodding to himself. “Yup. Bye.” He pocketed his phone, looking down at Diz and Huey to explain, “Aunt Goldie is going to take her. We just have to get her down to the ground.” “Alright, I think I’ve got it figured out!” Webby suddenly called inside, waving her arm for them to come out onto the roof with her. The triplets clambered out after her, Louie holding out his hand to Diz. She grabbed it and held on firmly, Louie helping her out the window. "Oh whoa. That's a long way down." Diz yelped as she looked down at the ground, clinging onto Louie. "Agreed." Louie shivered, white knuckling his hold on the peak of the window shield. "Check this out." Webby cried, walking across to the edge of the roof. “There’s big bushes right below. You just need something to cushion the impact.” “A mattress.” Huey realized, meeting her eyes. He bolted past Louie and Diz for the window, jumping back inside. He came back out, holding a limp air mattress and a pump. He threw it down on the roof, rapidly pumping it up before dropping it onto the bush far below. “How do we keep it from popping?” Diz questioned, not daring to let go of Louie as she looked out. “Gyro made it for me. It’s reinforced with steel fibrils and virtually pop-proof.” Huey declared proudly, setting his pump back inside. “So, who’s gonna test it?” Louie asked, and they all immediately turned to look at Dewey. “Fine.” Dewey sighed, pulling a strap out his pocket and attaching it to his glasses. Then he turned backwards to stand on the edge, saluting his brothers and the girls before he launched himself off, cutting a backflip before casually free falling towards the ground. They all leaned to watch, Dewey landing right on top of the mattress and ricocheting off onto the driveway. “A little bruised, but okay! Should be safe for you guys!” He called, stumbling to his feet. Webby immediately jumped off after Dewey, spreading her arms as if she was flying as she fell. She landed on her stomach, bouncing off into Dewey, throwing both of them to the ground. “H’boy.” Louie groaned, shaking his head before jumping after them. He hit the mattress and bounced, screaming and flailing in the air before landing on the gravel, just like Dewey. “Huey, I’m terrified of heights.” Diz admitted, and he took her hand. “Imma keep you safe. When I say jump, we both go, okay?” She just nodded. “Okay. Three- two- one- jump!” He shouted and they both sprang from the rooftop, plummeting towards the mattress. They bounced off the mattress together, landing in Louie, Dewey, and Webby’s waiting arms. “Oh! There y’all are!” Goldie came running up, holding out a blanket to Diz. “Let’s get you to a doctor.” “What doctor is going to actually believe us, and know what I need?” Diz asked, sneezing and wrapping the blanket around her shoulders. “My personal physician. He’s seen and heard a lot with me, he’ll believe us… Huey, you’re the one who knows the most about this whole situation. Can you afford to come along?” Goldie asked, putting her arm around Diz’s shoulders and walking her towards the car. “Absolutely.” Huey climbed into the backseat with Diz, Goldie getting into the passenger seat with Launchpad at the wheel. “So, what do we do now?” Dewey asked, looking at the others as they stood on the driveway, rubbing their sores, watching the limo drive off. “Simple. Diz and I found her a room today that she really liked, so we can set it up for her while she’s gone.” Webby cheered, excitement twinkling in her eyes. “That’s a great idea! Let’s get right on it!” Dewey cried, nudging Louie who just sighed. Then he looked back the mansion and let out an awkward laugh, watching green mist billowing out the front door. “Well, after we help air out the mansion, anyhow.” An hour later, all the mist was gone, and Nessie had been moved back to the attic for safekeeping…
