been seeing a lot of misinformation surrounding scratchs ai they added last summer. so i thought i would explain what it actually is. and for the record i am not pro generative ai. scratchs experiment with ai is not new, and it has been around since 2021. what is it that scratch is actually doing? 1. analyzing user project trends and behaviors to improve site onboarding and search features. NOT to train a llm model like openai or google is doing. 2. scratch is not training ai off our code. these are third party tools like penguinmod and turbowarp mainly to fix code errors and refine code. not really to automate code. 3. face sensing use localized machine learning models to track eyes, nose, and hands. these are stored locally meaning to your device not to a server and are removed once you close the project 4. ai moderation is not new. they are just now using our messages to train it to better keep scratch safe since in the always evolving world of the internet we find new bypasses to say swears and slurs. this is good by the way it is keeping the kids safe
