felicette, a tuxedo street cat, was recruited among thirteen other cats for a french space mission in 1963. of the fourteen, she was chosen for her sweet temper. she was the first cat in space, and survived the flight back. two months after, scientist euthanized her to study her brain. felicette was largely forgotten until 2019, when they made a bronze statue in her honor that resides in Stratsbourg, France.
