PROLOGUE _Groan. What happened?_ Pitter. Patter. _Brr. I’m so cold._ Skye shifted her paws, the ground gritty and grainy underneath her, quite unlike the usual ground. Pitter. Patter. _Gosh, my fur is completely wet._ Lying still, she tried to remember what happened before she ended up here. A gust of wind blew, engulfing her with alien smells, so unlike her home. _Home._ _Right. I should be heading home._ Skye struggled to stand up, her legs threatening to give way under her. _Why are my legs not working properly?_ As if that question was the key to a part of her brain, all the previous memory came rushing back—the hare, the chase, and how, as she was running and trying to change direction, the ground disappeared beneath her paws, and… Shaking her head as if to clear her mind, she stood up, firm, and looked behind her, where she fell from, if she remembered correctly. Behind her, a rock face loomed silently, looking down upon her. _If the cliff had a face, it’ll probably be grumpy._ _But seriously, I fell from that? No wonder._ _Guess I gotta find a way up, right?_ As hopeless as the situation seemed, Skye tried anyway. Her paws scrabbled on the sheer rock face, slippery and wet, to no avail. _There must be a way up!_ _I can’t give up…_ Her muscles ached as she tried and tried, over and over again, to climb the wall. _It’s… no use…_ Panting, she sat down, her legs now sore. Rain continued to pour down relentlessly, drenching her further when it didn’t seem possibly to be more drenched. _My family will find me. Right? They must have realised I disappeared while on my hunting shift._ As if on instinct, she lowered her nose to the ground to try and catch a whiff of the familiar scent of her pack. Salty wind, gritty sand, earthy scents, the rain… _Wait, there’s not even a single remaining scent of my pack._ _What do I do now? If I can’t smell them, then does that mean they can’t smell me too? The rain has washed away everything. Why was I not aware of my surroundings when I was chasing that damn hare? This is all my fault…_ Sighing, Skye dragged herself to a small opening in the cliff space, to get out of the heavy rain. Resting her head on her paws, she stared at the pouring, dark sky. _I guess now… all I can do is… hope._ CHAPTER 1
The ones with underscores were supposed to be italic font… but guess it doesn’t work here. Hope you enjoy the story! So far, it’s only the prologue. Just in case you don’t understand, this is about a wolf named Skye who accidentally got lost while chasing a hare and is now stranded without her pack. Writing by meeeeeeee :)
