Suddenly remembering the strange dragon, the sharp pain, he gasped and sat up a little too quickly, and a blanket slid off him. He blinked as he took in his surroundings. He was in a cave, but there were holes covered by large leaves, letting in some soft light. There was a desk with plants strewn across it, like someone had stopped what they were doing and left. There was also a door, covered with another leaf, but this leaf was loose and movable. Shadows flicker across the surface of the leaf, like dragons were passing, blocking the light for a couple of seconds... He carefully, silently, stood. His feet crunched softly, on a carpet of leaves. He stepped back onto the bed. They would hear him if he came that way. He scanned the room, looking for another way out. He had just decided on going deeper into the cave when the leaf curtain was pushed aside. "Oh, you're awake," said a sharp voice. "I was hoping you'd sleep for another couple hours. Or days." The dragon stepped into the light, and Winter could see green, brown, gold, and deep, deep red. What type of dragon was this, with so many colors? The dragon noticed him staring. "I'm a LeafWing-SkyWing hybrid. Most of us are hybrids." she stepped over to the desk, setting down some new plants and beginning to organize them. "There are more of you?" Winter fought back his emotions, keeping his voice steady and calm. "Where?" he asked, glancing around. The dragon glanced at him, a slight look of puzzlement on her sharp features. "Outside," she said, "but we all have jobs. I think it's best I tell you what's happening before-" before she could finish, a loud yelp sounded through the cave. The large leaf door cover was thrashing, with a dragon flapping around inside it. "Three moons..." growled the hybrid, setting down a red plant with thorns that sharpened into thin, purple ends and using her claws to rip through the leaf. "Arrgle! I'm dying! I'm dying!" screeched the dragon, totally overreacting. As the LeafWing-SkyWing slashed through the leaf, she accidentally scratched the dragon inside. "Aiiiiiii!" the dragon shouted, flopping to the floor. "You've killed me!" The LeafWing hybrid opened her mouth angrily, probably to shout back, when the dragon sprung up, noticing Winter. "Ooh, you brought in another? Who is it? Whoisitwhoisitwhoisitwhoisit?" Now that he wasn't flopping around like a fish, Winter could see shining red scales, and green eyes. This new dragon was smiling, a big change from the previous atmosphere. His eyes were gleaming kindly. Winter couldn't help but feel warm toward him, though he tried to hide it. This dragon had a kind atmosphere. "Hello, new dragon! It's super nice to meet you! What's your name? You look really excited!!!" Winter blinked slowly, taking this in. The dragon had a personality sort of like Kinkajou's, but a little different. Not everyone would have noticed it, but below this dragons happiness, Winter saw another dragon. A sad, secretive one. "I-I'm Winter," said Winter, shaking out of his thoughts. "I-I mean- Prince Winter of the IceWings, nephew to Queen Glacier." Why had he forgotten that? Just for a moment... but still, he shouldn't forget it! "Ooh, fancy! Hi, Winter!" The red dragon said, laughing. Something about him was just... like even though he didn't act like it, he would fully understand anything Winter told him. "I'm Red!" Winter blinked. "I... noticed." he said, wondering if this was a prank or trick or something. He was red? Yes, indeed. His scales were a vibrant, eye-catching, deep red. Laughing again, the dragon quickly clarified. "No, no, I mean- my NAME is Red. And this," he said, gesturing at the LeafWing-SkyWing, "is my sister, Ivy!" Ivy shoved him aside. "Half-sister. And don't listen to Red. He has as much brain as one of the moons!" She snapped, then added, "I'm going to find a new leaf. That one won't do us any good." Ivy turned, growling, and stomped outside, sweeping some plants into her half-hidden, brown woven pouch. Red didn't seem to notice. "Well, yeah, I'm full SkyWing. She's older then me, by about two years. Anyway, you should see camp!" Red grabbed Winter's arm, shoved aside the tattered remains of the green leaf, and brought Winter outside, into a beam of blazing sunlight. _____
