this lore crossover has been marinating in my brain for a long time and i need to tell someone abt it art is bad quality lumine in the AU by me, fully shaded wow! ch 0 : stuff to know Im sorry if i repeat a lot of stuff, ive been jumping around to add things if you don’t know at least a lot of genshin lore this will be confusing. there will also be spoilers for most of the ac, up until and especially snezhnaya act I and II. It will also contain spoilers for lohen’s story quest and the temple of space world quest. I’m not a lore expert, even though I know somewhat a lot about the lore. I’ve never read the manga. All my knowledge is from the game. This AU will incorporate the whole genshin main story, but mostly lore from snezhnaya, as well as a lot of fanon watcher/listener lore such as the watcher magic, etc. It WILL change some canon parts of genshin lore to make it fit. I’m just gonna call the traveler Lumine since I play as lumine and it’s easier for me. ch 1: Main worldbuilding parts Watchers and listeners are enemies, and opposites, though they have lots in common regarding their physical and biological makeup. When i talk about something that includes both of them, i will call the collective group “beings”. Watchers nor listeners are inherently evil or good, as which role they adopt (or if they are morally gray) is different in each world. Even so, their main morals and living style stay the same, just every world interprets “good” and “bad” differently. I like to imagine what the worlds would be like since the very foundation of their thinking are completely different from ours, but i’m getting off track. Going off of the assumption that there are more worlds similar to teyvat, watchers and listener magic will exist in some form in each world. Each world (including teyvat) has its own laws of physics, magic system, etc. which is why most laws do not apply to Lumine. In teyvat, light realm energy is listener magic and dark realm energy is watcher magic. The Abyss is the watcher organization in teyvat. They both behave similarly but are complete opposites. In this AU, elemental energy is derived from light energy and mixed with energy native to teyvat. This native energy corresponds to the element. For example, anemo = listener magic + wind, etc. Oh yeah and the heavenly principles, also knows as the third descender, was also a watcher. Each watcher is tied to a world, same for each listener. Multiple watchers/listeners can be tied to the same world, but it is rare as there are so many worlds and not as many watchers/listeners. Usually, when a being is tied to a world, they go watch/listen over the world or even integrate themselves with the lives of the people in that world by pretending to be a person, so they can fit in. What being “tied” to a world means is that they embody some part of that world in their person. For example, a being tied to teyvat might have a vision, or hold adepti magic, hold a form of the curse of death/immortality, etc. ch 2 : traveler Lumine was born (?still not sure how watchers manifest) as a watcher. Her twin, aether, is also a watcher. As i do not know a lot about Asmoday, she isn’t relevant and the travelers ended up in teyvat in a different way. The twins are both tied to teyvat. What Lumine picked up from teyvat through the bond was their moral compass, which made her stand out and always feel different. She was rare for a couple of reasons: 1.Not a lot of watchers get tied to a world in which they are the “evil” party, teyvat included. 2. It is an extremely rare sight for a being to adopt the moral compass of a world, since if a moral compass is adopted from a world in which the watchers are good, nothing changes, since the two moral compasses will be very similar. Since ties are what make a watcher unique, and watchers worship this uniqueness, natural selection eliminated most cases of a moral compass being inhereted. For aether, he adopted a vision and could freely manipulate the element of elctro, even when not in teyvat. So, the twins studied in the watcher realm, not being allowed to go to teyvat until they were older and more matured watchers. Though, Lumine often found the watcher’s methods to be cruel due to her altered moral compass, and often spoke up against the watchers, earning her lots of punishment. Even though aether never really understood why lumine spoke up to the watchers seemingly just (from his point of view) actions, he stood beside his sister all the way, because he believed in her. Though, this closeness started to falter, as the watchers got so fed up with lumine that they abandoned the twins. This means that they were never going to get the chance to go to teyvat, where they belonged. Aether was mad at lumine, even he loved her. Lumine was aware of this, but she couldnt turn back now. The twins went to the listener realm in search of refuge. (+)
read instructions first! The listeners, even though they had more similar morals to the people of teyvat, still didn’t appreciate watchers coming into their realm. They tried to turn the pair into listeners, by injecting listener magic into their souls. Now, their souls were all watcher magic. But after the “experiments”, the listeners managed to make their souls almost half listener magic. The twins still weren’t fully accepted into the listener realm. After the pair agreed they couldn’t keep living like this, They started traveling on their own to different worlds. After a paticularily harsh world, Aether realized that his mind couldn’t take the listener magic, but he knew lumine would be mad if he just let it all go to become a full watcher again. So he did it in secret on their spaceship. Aether was never the handy one, leaving lumine to manufacture the ship and stuff. After the former used up all the listener magic to rid his soul of it, the ship experienced an unprecedented overflow of magic. Lumine woke up to the sound of alarms. Lumine was distraught, scared, and confused, as she saw aether take up his full watcher form, wings and such. The ship crashed after that, little did they know on Teyvat. Then, the canon (to genshin) series of events took place, as Aether woke up in Khaenri-ah, went to wake up lumine, etc. whatever happened. When Lumine woke up, she quickly came to her senses. This is what she had to do: 1. find her brother, at all costs. It was her fault for dragging aether into the whole outcast mess, and she felt immensely bad for that. If aether died, she’d never be able to get over it. 2. With watcher overlord permission, OR listener magic in one’s soul, one can appear as “alive” to the people, archons, gods like the ruler of death/life, angels, witches, basically anyone on teyvat. Without one of those, you are dead. The ley lines will try to reclaim you, you will be seen as a ghost to normal people, etc. It will be no different to actually being dead. Therefore, Lumine has to preserve the listener magic in her soul to keep traveling anonymously in teyvat. ch 3: travels in teyvat This is the part that takes place in the actual archon quests. Nothing really changes from the archon quests, but since elemental energy is made up of light realm (listener) magic and some energy native to teyva, this means that: 1. lumine has to use some of her limited listener magic to manipulate the elements, so she only uses it in dire situations. 2. Lumine does not have the second part to the equation of elemental energy (a substance native to teyvat) So she can only use the element when its present in her environement, which is why in this au, her main element used is anemo and she avoids using the other ones to avoid confusion. Lumine will take (almost) any means neccesary to avoid being knows as a watcher, because that will associate her with the Abyss Order, which then she will be no longer permitted to travel on teyvat, which is bad since she needs to find her brother. She was quite rattled once she realized that people had figured out that she was a Descender, but since that didn’t inherently mean she was a watcher, she decided to go with it. I plan for the whole AU to be this found-family thing where Lumine slowly learns to value and other things in life and trust other people other than her brother throughout the archon quests. ch 4: additional Ronova is a watcher, since her magic is based on eyes. She is tied to teyvat through it’s vision. She once had an electro vision, but after she became the ruler of Death, she took it off and destroyed it as it did not serve any purpose. Instead, she uses watcher magic to guide souls through the Ley Lines. In the temple of space world quest, the “watchers” are indeed descendants of actual watchers, but it’s just the branch of watchers in teyvat and they’re heavily tied to the Abyss Order. The real watchers hold much more power than the teyvat-native ones. I plan for the follwoing characters to also be watchers: Mitya Raiden Ei (and her sister) Mitya: This is why he was in our dream the first night of the theater lock in (snezhnaya AC act II) but did not get swallowed up by the black mist. This is because the black mist represents the souls returning to the ley lines, through watcher magic, and Mitya has a connection to watcher magic but does not die that night.
