All Eyes On You (Through The Looking Glass) 6 months past Nononononononono. 6 months. For 6 months she’s been holed up at home, doing absolutely nothing. Like Amelia was. For 6 months, she has had barely any contact with the outside world. Like Amelia had. For six months she didn’t realize that the outside world didn’t know Amelia. They knew her. She is Amelia. Olivia’s worried voice had caught her off guard. You haven’t left the house in ages. Is everything okay? And short story made shorter, she’s having dinner with Livvie. Tonight. With her friends. “Ughhhh,” she groans. She’s been sitting in front of the mirror, trying to figure out Amelia’s—her—makeup. 3 dabs of blush. 2 coats of mascara on the right, 3 on the left. She’d debated wearing the red dress today, but the occasion wasn’t special enough. The restaurant is glamorous, it always has been. Her favorite spot. “Oh there you are,” Livvie appears from behind a wall, wrapping our arms together. “Girl, you have got to start answering my calls.” She lets out a deep breath. She could do this. She could so do this. One night. Amelia turns to Livvie, a smirk on her face, “And what makes you think it’s your calls I’d answer?” Livvie looks a little taken aback, and she starts panicking. She couldn’t do this. What is she thinking? Overc—oh. Yes. Amelia winks, “Overconfidence…,” she trails off, raising her eyebrows. At this, Livvie grins, “...is the death of humanity. Come on.” She leads her to a table of 6, where 3 others were already sitting. “Charlotte, Emma, Iris,” Livvie gestures to her, “Amelia Stone. Amelia, Charlotte, Emma, and Iris.” The girls at the table chuckle, looking at her warmly. Why is Livvie introducing her? Does she know? Do they all know? How do they— Emma snorts, “See, Mimi, we haven’t talked to you in so long,” she clutches her heart rather dramatically, “it’s like we’ve forgotten you.” As they sit, Amelia tries to spark another conversation, “Soo, have the menus come or..?” Livvie looks at her like she was absurd. “I can’t believe it. Amelia Stone asking for the menu at The Marlowe? Like you aren’t gonna order the mushroom pasta.” But she passes it to her anyway. It’s like we’ve forgotten you. Deep, slow breaths, come on. “Amelia?” She looks up and all their eyes are on her. Char says, “Your order?” “Oh. Yeah, sorry, zoned out.” Amelia looks over to Livvie and gives her a smile, “I’ll have the mushroom pasta, thanks.” “Sorry, ma’am, we’re out of the mushroom pasta today. Anything else…?” Anything else. Something else. What else? “Oh ho ho, Amelia Stone ordering something else at The Marlowe,” Emma grins. She looks up at the waiter, “Good going, kid.” She looks down at the menu. Steak frites. That sounds good to her. Would that sound good to Amelia? Steak frites it is. “Uhm, how about the uhh,” Amelia points at the laminated paper, “the steak frites?” “Ooh good choice,” Livvie lights up, “you know what? Scratch the salad, I want whatever Mimi’s having.” Say something. The food arrives in minutes. Marlowe’s is just that efficient. Say something. “Oh my goodness,” Iris says, her mouth full of food, “do you guys remember the guy from the train? Yeah so he—” “Oh yeah!” Nonononononono. What guy??? Iris gives her a skeptical look as Livvie taps Amelia on the shoulder, “Having some memory problems, are we? You weren’t there. Since, you know, you haven’t shown your face in 6 months.” Right, right yeah. I wasn’t there because I—she—what? “Hello, Earth to Mimi? We good?” Fine, just fine. She’s fine. Amelia’s okay. She’s okay “Amelia? Are you okay?”
