The Girl In The Glass (Through The Looking Glass) 5 minutes past Amelia Stone is right here. She always has been. Maybe that is what she had loved most about her, Amelia’s presence. Her presence. She stands and forces herself to even her breathing, smoothing out the new wrinkles on her dress. And then she smiles. Amelia would’ve smiled. Right? She remembers watching Amelia smile when Dad gave it to her for the 23rd birthday 2 years ago. So Amelia should be happy while wearing it. She lets out a slow breath, remembering that day. She’d wanted Amelia to have the day for her own, but she couldn’t resist. She just had to see Mom’s dress on. What now? Amelia would…she might… She has no idea what to do anymore. Amelia was supposed to know what to do, she always had a plan. She was supposed to know. Amelia has never killed anyone before. But that isn’t right. Amelia didn’t kill her. She fell. The double fell on her own. Amelia was ready to let her keep her own life. But now the double is finally gone and Amelia is panicking. This isn’t right. Why is she feeling like this? She was Amelia. But she doesn’t feel like Amelia anymore. Why isn’t she Amelia anymore? She needs to get back home. She needs to get to…to chez her. That’s what Amelia would say. Amelia sprints out of the castle, sparing only one glance back to the body that lay below. The walls shudder with every step Amelia takes, the floorboards groaning beneath her. She gets into the car and slams the door shut, her hand reaching for the ignition. No. She gets back out and sits in the driver’s seat, letting out a sigh. She’s too used to sitting in the backseat. The engine sputters as it comes to life. Amelia drives out hesitantly, looking longingly back at the hideous castle. But there was nothing left for Amelia there. There couldn’t be. Amelia had things to do. She had to…well she had to do something. Amelia always had something to do. Not anymore. Shut up. She’d driven the road back many times, it was burned into her head. But it was always back to Amelia. She never fathomed she might be going [as] Amelia. Although, that isn’t quite true, is it? She knew that, if all went to plan tonight, she would’ve gone back as Amelia Stone. And all had gone to plan. So why is there dread curling up in her stomach? Amelia turns the wheel and—she keeps turning. The tires screech The car skids across the road, and Amelia is suddenly grateful for the total absence of cars on the highway. Why weren’t there any cars? Her mom’s car spins in circles, taking Amelia’s head with it. She couldn’t focus. It was all too dizzy. “Shitshitshitshitshit,” she chants, frantically turning the wheel, slamming the breaks, doing something, anything, not to crash Amelia’s mom’s car. The car comes to a blissful stop, right as the left side of the car gives in and thuds to the ground. Her mind is still spinning, her thoughts overcome with the same question. What would Amelia do? She gets out of the car and surveys the damage. The sides of the car are completely scraped up and 2 of the wheels were bust. Amelia had never gotten into a car crash before. She didn't drive like that. What now?
