Random vent. But like. a happy vent? That's probably a completely new term that I just coined honestly, but that's besides the point. About a year ago I shared the project called "Haircut Troubles". I made this project because I had been going through a huge personal crisis where I was very dissatisfied with my own appearance. I had always hated haircuts but never really had a say in whether or not I got them. I absolutely despised the way my hair looked while short and even though everyone around me had constantly been telling me it didn't look good I criticized myself so much either way. I kinda split this into sections based on time periods. I don't think I did this very well so i'm gonna try to do it again! ⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘ ★ Late 2022 (Early 8th Grade) Up until this point, I had been getting haircuts extremely frequently to the point where it was always incredibly short and generic. I am white with blue eyes and dark brown hair, in order to paint a picture of that. ★ Early 2023 (Late 8th Grade) Haircuts had gotten noticeably less frequent, now getting usually around 2 a year. My hair had begun to grow out a little and it was honestly not taken care of too well. It was like a shorter, less good-looking version of a mop top. ★ Late 2023 (Early Freshman Year) The beginning of high school and with that came a lot of self-consciousness. I began to grow more aware of my appearance, comparing it to others. My hair stayed the same, but it was longer. more noticeably a mop top but still not taken care of too much. ★ Winter 2023-4 (Mid Freshman Year) At some point in time here I had gotten a super caucasian haircut LOL (It was pretty clean looking but again, was not short, so it didn't really look good on me.) ★ Early 2024 (Late Freshman Year) At this point I had turned 15 and I had begun taking care of my hair because I hadn't gotten a haircut in a good minute and was beginning to notice how much I relied on it to look good as I didn't have very good facial structure. My hair was long at this point and was beginning to show some semblance of a straight-haired mullet or maybe more like a choppy wolf cut. I liked it a lot although looking back it still wasn't that good. ★ Mid 2024 (Summer) Buzz cut.... We don't.... we don't talk about that.... ★ Late 2024 (Early Sophomore Year) It began to grow out but I honestly stopped taking care of my hair for a while (due to personal issues; this was a really dark time for my mental health for no particular reason, I was just really down, a lot of that due to someone I had cared about a lot passing). It looked really sloppy. ★ Early 2025 (Late Sophomore Year) My hair is still growing out. Still not taking care of it. ★ Mid 2025 (Summer) My hair had officially grown back out fully to the weird mullet/wolf cut hybrid that I have really no way to describe. It was no longer messy because I was not down in the dumps anymore and was actively putting a lot of attention into my hair. At this point in time was when I had begun to develop a noticeable mustache which I do personally believe helps with my look. ★ Late 2025 (Early Junior Year) This was when I posted the haircut troubles photo. I had just gotten another haircut and it was the worst one I had ever gotten. ★ Winter 2025 (Early-Mid Junior Year) I had to get ANOTHER haircut and this one was worse. I desperately tried to style it to get it to look good but it was pretty fruitless honestly. ★ Winter 2026 (Mid Junior Year) Thankfully, the haircut I had gotten was longer on the top than the sides; so when it began to grow out it didn't take long for it to start looking good. I began to style it every day. ★ Early 2026 (Late Junior Year) My hair was officially fully grown out. And because of how my newest haircut was different from any I had gotten before... it had grown out into an actually extremely good looking and fully mullet-looking mullet. I had been taking care of my hair for a while at this point so things were looking great! I had this look for about two months before I HAD to get another haircut. At this point I had went Alt a while ago and wanted to get a short punk-ish haircut but that didn't work too well so I bit the bullet and got a buzz again. However, because I now had facial hair as opposed to when I was newly 15, as well as my facial structure changing ever so slightly this school year (I think?? My facial structure still looks almost exactly the same just better now, although idk If this is actually possible and I might just look better?) I actually didn't hate the buzz, it looked way better than it did 2 years prior. ★ Mid 2026 (Summer) After begging my parents since I was 13 they finally let me dye my hair. It is now silver and my hair has begun to grow out again. As of right now it's like 2 inches long and I have been taking advantage of how short it is right now to style it into liberty spikes as much as I can this summer. ★ Late 2026 (Early Senior Year) And that's the present. READ ABOVE FIRST I do now believe that I look the best I ever have and things have been uphill extremely since my last project. I don't hate the way I look anymore because I have learned to truly freely be myself and now that I am really expressing myself through my looks and style things have been great. One thing I learned throughout all of this is you shouldn't be too worried about how you look. There are parts of you that you cannot control. One thing I heard from somewhere (I don't remember where) that really resonated with me is that you shouldn't be too ashamed of your appearance as you think about how you look 10 times more than others do. With that being said, if you yourself are unsatisfied with your look, do not be afraid to change it. Be yourself. I personally believe that your appearance is the best way to show who you truly are and that anyone who is willing to judge you for that is someone that you should stay away from anyway. With that being said, if you are content with the way you look, you shouldn't worry about how other people feel because all it really boils down to is that it is your body and not theirs so the only person who should have a say on your hair, or clothing, or appearance is YOU. (Please do note however that it is very important to still take care of yourself and your personal hygiene.) While my past features a lot of horrendously embarrassing looks most people, if not EVERYONE, go through this. Almost everyone on earth has something in their past that embarrasses them, or maybe even is unknowingly still going through that phase of their life right now, but it's not something to be ashamed of; It's a part of you, a part that existed, and will always be a part of you, no matter how distant, and you should love every part of yourself. (one last thing I would like to note is that while most of this is about my hair that is not the only self consciousness I had; I used to have so many and I still do have quite a few. Everyone has something they are self conscious of, don't think you're doing something wrong just because there's something you don't like about your appearance. Anyway I believe that's all I had to say so I hope you guys have a good one! I hope I did end things out on a well enough note. See ya! ★
