Chapter 4: Iris What the hell am I doing? Crushing on a girl I barely know, nevermind she’s queer. And now? Giving her my phone number on a whim, and then running off? I need to calm down, immediately. The Andy Griffith theme song plays from my phone. Hey, reads the accompanying text, it’s Rosa. Thanks for getting ice cream today, I had a lot of fun! :) Aaaaannnnnnnnnnnddddddddddd cue the butterflies. Suddenly, whatever I was thinking about seems unimportant. Hey! I had a lot of fun too! I type back. Apparently, I really need to watch where I’m going, because I slam into a tree. “Owwwwwwwww,” I whine, but this is really my fault rather than the tree’s. At least everything is intact, including my glasses and my phone screen. I push my glasses up my nose. It’s a good thing my frames are intact. My annoyingly strong nearsightedness and no glasses is not a good combination. Curse you, way-too-strong-for-a-14-year-old prescription. I enter the building where my guitar lessons are, silencing my phone. I can save my teenage angst for after.
