DIZ’S ORIGIN STORY (written by @DisneyNerd26) Part 6: You Are Home. (Music: Wake Me Up - Avicii) (While the kids were at the party…) “We need to talk about Diz.” Scrooge sighed as the family sat around their living room. He rose to his feet, and began pacing in front of the TV as the room fell quiet for him to speak. “Huey and I had a discussion while Diz was still unconscious. She is unable to return home…” He let his words sink in. “It would take billions, and decades, to rebuild the Solego’s Circuit. She is stranded here.” “So what do we do?” Della murmured, eyeing her uncle. “Lass, I believe there’s only one thing we can do.” Scrooge’s bill turned up in a soft smile… It was nearly 11 that night before Lena’s party began to wind down, Lena’s friends and family saying goodbye one by one before going out to their cars. Soon, it was just triplets, Webby, and Diz standing in the room with Lena, Violet, and Mr Saberwing. "Do you need us to stick around to help clean up?" Louie asked quietly, gesturing to the mess around them, and receiving a sharp elbow to the ribs by Dewey. "Don’t worry about it, Lou. My magic has it covered.” Lena replied with a wink, a soft blue aura forming around her hands. "You sure?" Louie asked quietly and Lena nodded, reaching down to catch his hand in hers and giving it a tight squeeze. "Absolutely. But thank you.” A loud crashing sound came from outside before anyone could say another word. “And that’d be our ride. Goodnight Lena. Happy birthday!” Webby laughed, giving her best friend a hug before backing up so the others could chime their goodbyes too. Lena hugged Louie last, their embracing seeming to last longer than everyone else’s. She whispered something inaudible to him before Dewey began pulling him backwards towards the door. Huey laughed as Louie swayed on his feet, grinning goofily as his cheeks went scarlet. “I call front seat!” Dewey suddenly shouted, running to jump in the front of the limo beside Launchpad, who was to drive them home. When they got to the mansion, Scrooge was waiting for them in the doorway as they all stumbled to get out the limo. “Thanks Launchpad. Drive home safe laddie.” Scrooge said, patting on the window of the limo. “Will do Mr. McDee.” Launchpad said with a nod, turning the limo around in the circle driveway to head back to his garage. “Diz, Ms. Beakley has prepared one of our guest bedrooms for you to sleep in tonight, if you’d like to move from the stretcher.” Scrooge said with a smirk. “Perhaps I can lend you some pajamas?” Della remarked, eyeing Diz‘s long evening gown. “That’d be great, thank you, both of yall.” Diz replied with an amiable smile before yawning. “Sorry!” She giggled as the whole group proceeded to yawn after her. “It’s okay Diz.” Louie said, covering his mouth. “It’s getting to be late.” “C’mon, I’ll lead you upstairs.” Mrs. Beakley took a stumbling Diz by the wrist and lead her up to the available room. As they went out of sight, Scrooge held out his arms to stop his family. “Kids, I know it maebe a wee bit different with another person in the house, but Diz doesn’t really any other options. If she’s comfortable with it, I’m going to invite her to move in with us full time. We have plenty of rooms, an’-“ “Uncle Scrooge. We don’t mind.” Dewey interrupted, with a shrug at his brothers. “She’s got nowhere else to go.” Louie exclaimed, frowning. Webby’s eyes softened and she put a hand on Louie’s shoulder, “I for one, wouldn’t mind another female my age around.” “It’s my fault she’s here.” Huey adjoined, staring down at his feet. Della gave the boys each a proud smile, adding on, “We’ll adapt. Like we always do.” “Okay then, if all are in agreement, as of tonight, all family protections and privileges will include Diz. All assent?” The whole group looked at each other before nodding at him. “Okay then. Goodnight my luvs. See ye bright and early.” “Night.” “Goodnight.” They all chimed their good nights as they dispersed up the stairs. Huey suddenly spotted Mrs. Beakley coming from the opposite side of the house from the boys’ room, on the same side as Scrooge’s master bedroom. He smiled softly, running back to the room his shared with his brothers. An hour later, the 3 of them were all showered and in pajamas, sneaking across the mansion. Huey looked at the small, numbered plaques next to each door in the dim light, until they finally reached G4. “Guest room 4. This is it.” He hissed, reaching out to gently tap on the door. “You found it!” Webby’s voice made them all jump. “Don’t act like you didn’t figure I’d show up too.” She said with a laugh. Huey shook his head with a chuckle, raising his fist again to rap on the door. “Hello? Can I come in?” He called quietly. “Oh, hey.” The door opened to reveal a puffy, teary eyed Diz standing there. “Come on in.” She croaked, opening the door wider. They all filed in, Louie hopping up to sit on the bed as she shut the door behind them.
Diz aggressively cleared her throat and hopped up on the bed beside Louie before asking, “What are you guys doing still up?” “We figured that you currently have no worldly possessions, nothing to comfort or calm you…” Huey began, looking down at his feet. “So we brought you a few things! I’ll start. Uh, it’s small, and maybe a bit childish- but I sewed you this.” He reached into his pants pocket, pulling out a bright red, fabric doll. Diz held out her hands and he set it in them. She fingered its flexible arms and legs, stroking her thumb across its head, eyes welling up. “It’s a little duck.” She laughed quietly, tenderly touching the tip of its tiny bill and beaded eyes. “Thank you Huey.” She breathed, rubbing at her eyes and hugging the doll to her chest. “Where’d you get the fabric? It’s so soft.” Huey blushed as the image of one of his old, too small shirts now in shreds on the bedroom floor crossed his mind. Dewey perked up, “Me next!” He held out a set of slippers and Diz's eyes lit up. "Aww Dewey! Thank you." She laughed excitedly, tugging them on. "They fit great!" "I got them for a birthday a few years ago- I don’t really wear them, but I figured they’d be about your size." Dewey replied shyly. "I wanted to give you this. It's not much, and it's a bit old and banged up, but I thought you could use something to contact us." Louie handed her a smartwatch with a big scratch across the screen. "It’s my old one, it has cellular, and a way to call us. I already reset it and put it under my number, as a kid's watch." He laughed. "Then I added in my number, Dewey's, Huey's, Webby's, Scrooge's, Goldie's, our mom's, and I think Mrs. Beakley's..." He was cut off by tears starting to trickle down her cheeks. "Thank you Louie." She murmured, strapping it on. "And I brought you this! I know it can get a little dark and lonely in these guest rooms." Webby gave her a handful of glow in the dark stars. “Aww Webby, thank you.” Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. “Come in.” Diz called. “Aha. I should have known ye kids would be in here.” Scrooge chuckled, peering around the doorframe. “We’re all gifting Diz something to make her feel more at home.” Webby explained, and Scrooge nodded, smiling. “That’s just what Uncle Scrooge and I were coming to do as well.” Goldie chirped, peering around the door too. They both walked up to Diz, exchanging a grin. “Diz, we’d like you to live with us here at the mansion. If you’re up for it, that is. Ye can explore an’ find yourself a proper room in the morn.” Diz’s mouth opened and closed silently, eyes wide with excitement. “I mean- If the gang doesn’t mind…” She finally stuttered. “We already live with Webby. How bad could it be to have another female in the house?” Dewey laughed, and Diz’s eyes lit up. She looked over at Louie next, who shrugged with a smile, then her icy blue eyes met Huey’s. He beamed and felt his cheeks color. She looked over at Webby last, who just grinned. “So-“ Scrooge was cut off by Diz flying at him, throwing her arms around his chest. “Thank you Mr. McDuck. I’d like that a lot.” She whispered, and he gently put his arms around her back, giving her a firm squeeze. “Yer very welcome.” He chuckled, letting her go as she wiped at her teary eyes. “Come on, let’s let Diz get some rest. You lads have classes in the morning anyhow.” Scrooge murmured, waving the boys after him out the room. “Goodnight.” He called to Diz, who smiled. “Goodnight y’all.” She said softly as the door shut. As soon as their footsteps fell quiet, Diz clambered onto the bed and curled up on-top of the blankets, closing her eyes tightly and pressing the soft cloth of Huey’s handmade doll against her cheek… Diz sat bolt upright to rapid knocking on her door. “Mom?” She groaned, and Webby excitedly burst around the doorframe. “Oh good! You’re awake!” She pounced on the end of the bed. “Am I?” Diz mumbled, staring down through bleary eyes at her white feathered hands. Webby reached over to the side table and shoved Diz’s glasses onto her face. “Better?” Diz silently nodded, then looked around the room. “Where are the triplets?” “Already left for school. You’ll be joining me for my homeschool classes later today.” Webby replied with a grin. “But first, we’ve got bedroom picking to do!” She hauled the drowsy Diz to her feet. “Webs, I’m not exactly a morning person-“ She began, but Webby cut Diz off by stuffing a muffin into Diz’s beak. “Okay, I guess we’re doing this now.” Diz laughed, shaking her head…
