Welcome to the Road Trip License Plate Game! This project is meant to be packaged, downloaded, and used on road trips to tally the different state license plates you see on the road as entertainment. Because of this, a save feature is used to save road trips so you can close the program and reopen it from where you left off. This feature is not available on the Scratch website version of the project. Below are instructions for the game, as well as a guide on how to export this project, both of which are also in the project as menu items. --INSTRUCTIONS-- The name of the game is to see how many state license plates you can count on a given road trip. If there are several passengers in the vehicle, have each person open this project, and you can play competitively or cooperatively! Start by looking out for other vehicles on the road. Pay attention to the license plates. The top of the plate indicates what state it is from. In the project, you can search a state from the Main Menu. Type the name of the state (i.e., "North Carolina"), a keyword (i.e., "North"), or a letter in the state's name (i.e., "N") to see if you can find it. Select the "+" button next to the state to add every instance in which you see that state's license plate! (Press the "-" button to subtract that value.) Press "Back" to return to the Main Menu, where you can see all the states you encountered so far. There may be more than one page of information, in which case you should look at the bottom left of the screen to find which page you are on, then select the arrow buttons to toggle to different pages. If you are running an exported version of this project, the game will autosave every few seconds after you make a change. You will see the message "Road Trip Saved Successfully!" appear briefly. After you see the message, it is safe to close the project. You can open it later to restore your progress and keep counting license plates! To start a new road trip ON THE EXPORTED VERSION OF THE PROJECT, select the "Reset" button at the top right corner. The project will display a message, alerting you that starting a new road trip will overwrite your current road trip data, and that the action cannot be undone - unless you have the data backed up outside the program, you will lose it forever. Select "YES" to do so, at which point the project will be ready for another road trip. --EXPORT GUIDE-- To properly export the project, open this project in TurboWarp. This can be done by opening a new tab and going to https://turbowarp.org. There will be a spot for you to paste a Scratch project URL. Copy this project's URL and paste it there. At the top of the site is a dropdown labeled "File." Select it and select the option that says, "Package Project." This will open another tab where you will package the project. Scroll down to the "Player Options" section. I suggest you ensure the project starts automatically without showing a big green flag and show only the fullscreen button in controls, but you can adjust this to your preference. THIS PART IS CRITICAL IF YOU WOULD LIKE ROAD TRIP DATA TO BE SAVED! Scroll down to Cloud Variables. Under the "Mode" dropdown, ensure that "Store in local storage" is selected. DISCLAIMER: This project does not contain cloud variables; however, there is a variable containing a cloud emoji that allows it to be viewed as a cloud variable by the TurboWarp packager. I would ensure the environment is set to "Plain HTML" to ensure it works on my device, but you can set it to what you prefer. Once you are ready to package the project, select "Package" and it will be downloaded to your device.
