So, this movie has been EXTREMELY controversial lately, and I saw it a few days ago, so I just wanted to put my opinions into. Just having been to Greece about 2 weeks ago, it was cool seeing how it would have been back then. [SPOILERS AHEAD] Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie. I'm reading the actual poem rn and the format of the movie was pretty close to the book. Matt Damon was a great Odysseus, and all of the actors were great, too. I thought the person who played Antinous was also great. There were a few strange moments and not very realistic parts (I'm not talking about the monsters) like how the tides in the Mediterranean are a foot apart, yet people drowned from that. What I find super cool was that most of the stuff wasn't CGI. Christopher Nolan had a lot of the stuff be puppetry and stuff like that, while using a bit to make it seem more lifelike. Take Polyphemus, for example, who was a giant 60 foot animatronic puppet. Or the disgusting pig scene, which used molding stuff. For all the boat scenes (like when Odysseus is tied up to the mast), those were all actually shot in the middle of the ocean. The soundtrack was all made from Ancient Greek instruments by the same guy who did the theme for The Mandalorian, Ludwig Göransson. All in all, it hit the right tone. Even if it was long (almost 3 hours) and had some fallacies, all of it was packed with action and stayed true to the original story.
