It's been over a year since the last DG project was shared, so I thought I'd give an update on what's happening, why development is taking so long, and where the game is currently at. To start with how much is completed: the core game engine is there. Many of the key foundational parts of the game are fully functional and ready to go. The game engine has been through extensive revision to make it significantly smoother and more efficient. To give a brief summary of these improvements: Assets needed for: - Horizon - Next Car selection engine - 89 - 54 Each car - 7 - 5 This is not even the full extent of these improvements: huge upgrades are planned for the near future which will significantly improve performance on slower devices, so you can play DG at smooth framerates even on your school Chromebooks or Samsung Smart Fridges. I am aware that the physics in DG: Horizon were widely, but not universally, liked. The next game keeps much of the core physics engine, but with many small changes that make it both more realistic and more rewarding. The upgrades result in a more satisfying driving experience with simulated understeer, better utilisation of 4-wheel terrain detection, and far greater handling variety between different cars. Now, to explain what's currently happening: me and the small group of DG Insiders have been regularly discussing potential changes, features, and new content. An open preview has been available for a while, and it has been recently updated. This has been a useful way for people to test the game and provide early feedback, and will continue to be in the future. It is playable now on itch (search for "DG: Ascension | Open Preview"). And finally, why development is taking so long: in short, I have a life. Scratch is not my job, and there are other things in my life that I wish to devote time to, not least my formal education. I've adopted an approach of no compromises for the new game. Horizon had a rushed release, and so I cut some corners to save time and effort. This time, I am sparing nothing to make the best game I can, and I want to take my time to get it right. Be patient, a fantastic game is on the way. @X-Marshal ========================================== Keep up with development: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/29397769 ========================================== CREDITS: Art: @X-Marshal @BRODUDECOOLGUY Sounds: Kaveh Cohen Michael Nielsen
