Vet Check with Forest Disclaimer: I do not claim partial or full ownership of them. You said Forest has an old puma bite, so I’ll check that in a bit but first I’ll check his vitals. I checked his vitals, and they were all good, within the normal range. I gave him a dewormer and vaccinations, so he should be all up to date now. You said he had a limp and I noticed this so l walked him to the roundpen and around it a few times so I could get a better feel for how it was affecting him before bringing him back to the cross ties. I examined the bite wound more closely and there was some mild swelling around the bite wound. I clipped the hair around the wound then cleaned the wound. I applied a suitable topical antibiotic to the wound then put on a clean bandage over the area. Clean the wound and put a fresh bandage on daily, and apply the antibiotic every other day, make sure you are wearing clean gloves when doing this. The limp is relatively mild, so give him a period of rest and no work at all. Keep him in his stall with occasionally taking him out to walk back and forth for a few minutes once a day, but if his limp worsens, swelling increases, the wound and/or the swelling feels hot to the touch, or it starts draining pus, contact me immediately for another examination. Schedule a follow-up examination in about 2 weeks so I can see how he’s progressing and determine our next steps. I cannot say whether the limp is permanent or not yet, but next visit I may be able to.
