VET CHECK WITH GO NUTS Disclaimer: I do not claim partial or full ownership of him, he is owned by @JustAFjordHorse You stated that Cashew has equine flu and I ran some quick tests this has proven accurate. As Equine Flu is contagious keep them quarantined from all other horses and wash hands and maybe even change clothes offer working with him before moving to other horses. If you have a quarantine barn use that. If you don’t but you do have multiple barns just put him in a barn by himself. Especially be careful not to get any foals you may have infected. Avoid exercise while he's recovering. If he needs turnout for comfort, keep him completely separate from other horses and avoid anything that gets him running or exerting himself. If he does start to exert himself stop it and keep him calm until he gets his breath back and take him back to his stall. Keep him rested and make sure he always has clean, fresh water. Make sure he gets very supportive care. Monitor his eating and drinking, if he shows signs of dehydration or loosing weight contact me again for another checkup, I may be able to recommend or prescribe some foods or a diet, If his nasal discharge or temperature gets to be irregular please tell me, and the same for if he starts coughing. Check his temperature at least once a day, but twice or more is optimal. With proper care Cashew should recover relatively quickly, he’s a strong boy. I would say keep him away from other horses while he’s sick and for at least three weeks after his symptoms have resolved, and at that time you can GRADUALLY return to work with him. I also did a quick checkup for everything else and he was all good! Let me know if his condition worsens or any other horses get sick.
