Chapter 6 I sat on my bed for almost an hour, so scared. Then, I got a text from Charlotte. She was saying she was at Tom’s. She had a sleepover with him. I didn’t believe her though. I replied and waited, I got no reply. I walked outside and got into my Honda, not even waiting to put on my seatbelt, and drove over to Tom’s house. When I got there, nobody was home. I rolled my eyes and pulled up Charlotte’s phone’s location. It said she was at the creek so I drove down to the creek as quickly as possible. I got out of my car and walked to the creek. Charlotte’s phone was in the creek, and it was almost dead. That was ALSO unusual because she always had her phone fully charged in the mornings. I reached down into the creek and heard a branch snap behind me, I quickly pocketed Charlotte’s phone and turned towards the sound. I didn’t even think before throwing my phone at the sound. A hand shot up and caught my phone. I tilted my head and my eyes widened. Standing there, in front of me, in a town that wasn’t his hometown, was my best friend; Max. Max smirked and took a step towards me. “Wow, you look like you’re searching for Charlotte’s body, not her phone.” Max said, his smirk widening. I rolled my eyes. “Max, what are you doing here?” Max tossed my phone at me and I immediately caught it. “Well, I got a text from Charlotte saying she was at a sleepover at Tom’s. But when I asked for a picture, I saw her phone went on silent mode. I spent all night driving here.” I rolled my eyes and turned around, noticing footprints in the mud by the waterbed. I stepped on rocks to cross the creek and followed the footprints on the other side of the creek. Max followed me and I didn’t say anything. I just chucked a rock at his face. He sidestepped and fell into the creek. “Stay here Max! Love you~!” I said, running off. Max sat up and glared at me. “Love you too~!” I smirked and kept running. I arrived at a gate blocking off a building and, without a second thought, started to climb it. I heard a car start driving away from the building right as I crossed the gate.
