a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, in the most delightful way. ...or so they tell us. but you can't coat a fracture in honey and grace, or swallow a remedy you can't even face. we sweeten the bitter to soften the sting, and pretend we don't notice what winter will bring. it’s okay to admit that the medicine’s tart, that a bright, sunny smile won't fix a heavy heart. sometimes the healing is found in the ache— in tasting the truth of the choices we make.
