Well, for most dragons, Glasswing thought. He wished he and sister could spend this day together, but they had to get their job assignments at the SilkWing “Support” office. After what felt like hours of waiting, but was probably only twenty minutes, according to Glasswing’s sense of time, the siblings were permitted into the Assignment Room. “Names,” A black and banana yellow HiveWing said listlessly. “Flicker and Glasswing,” Flicker squeaked out. This was one of the rare times Glasswing saw Flicker actually look nervous – interacting with HiveWing guards or royalty, since they both knew those were the dragons who would punish them for being hybrids. The HiveWing slowly looked through his paperwork and handed two scrolls to Flicker and Glasswing. “Glasswing – silk work. Flicker – servant. Get yourselves together and head to your workplace immediately.” With a quick nod, they backed away and left the office, heading towards the plaza outside. “I always knew we wouldn’t be able to choose our jobs,” Flicker said softly, her eyes downcast. “But I didn’t think I would be assigned to be a servant. The only thing I’m hoping for now is that I get a good HiveWing mistress. But even that’s a high expectation.” She sighed. Glasswing didn’t know what to say to comfort her, but he wrapped his wings around his sister anyways. “Remember what Angel said?” He added awkwardly. “You were a great student. Maybe it won’t be too bad?” Flicker looked at him, her face still full of concern. Maybe that wasn’t the right thing to say. “I guess you’re right,” She nodded. “It’ll definitely be easier than construction, that’s for sure.” She let out a sigh. “I guess we should get going now. Bye Glasswing.” Although Glasswing knew that this might be their goodbye, it didn’t feel like it. And he watched his sister trot off, without a single farewell from him and any knowledge that they’d see each other again.
