I woke to my alarm beeping loudly. Ugh, even though I've done it before, waking up this early always feels so painful... I trudge out of bed and walk across my room to turn it off. 5:30. Why couldn't school start any later? I look towards my coyote mask and tail. My kin are probably already awake in the forest...hunting their morning meal. If they can, then so can I. I throw on my favorite t-shirt and shorts- even though school's starting today, it's far too hot to wear anything else. Unless... I clip my tail to my shorts. Maybe if I wear this, I'll finally make a friend. I hurry around and shove the rest of the needed supplies into my bag, still stumbling around groggily like a newborn pup. Finally, I approach my desk and grab a sharpie. Quickly yet carefully, I sketch out the therian symbol on the back of my right hand. The bus is nearly silent. It makes sense- it's too early for anyone to feel social. Everyone hates going back to school after summer. My homeroom class is the same as always. After first period, I check my schedule for my nest class. Great. It's on the first floor and I'm on the third. I hurry and without looking accidentally bump into a girl who's also quickly trodding down the stairs. "Sorry!" We both say. She smiles at me. I grin back. "I'm sorry, I was just rushing down to Mr. Sterling's class..." I say. Her face lights up. "Me too! Let's walk together." Her voice is familiar- but I can't put a finger on it. I nod. "Sounds good." She tilts her head. "This is going to sound strange, but I feel like I've seen you before." I'm taken slightly aback. "I was going to say the same thing. What's your name?" Her eyes flick down to my tail and she notices the symbol on my wrist. "I'm Hannah. But my friends call me Ghost." ------------------ Credits: Thank you so, so much to @frostedwolfcake for the inspiration! This was inspired by A Therian's Trail, so go check that out!
